Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Jammin' on Jarboe update
" Jammin has been moved to next Saturday, due to issues with the band that had been booked. The Dennis Davis Band will be playing Jammin next Saturday evening, and I believe the after party will be at Aspens where I believe Ben Reyna will be playing. Also let the folks know that in September I have the level One Band back again for a repeat performance this season. "

Thanks for the Jarboe Jam update, Dennis. And for all the work you do to put these great events together. Sept.'s band brings the crowds for sure.

Hope Aspens will have a great wait staff for the after party.

Here's one for the "Where are They Now" highlight.

I found it hilarious to hear a former CLS cop, that was fired, is now running for Judge. According to GDN,he submitted over 900 signatures to get on the ballad and about 600 could be verified.

I bet none of the signatures were from CLS. Sure you remember him, the cop selling insurance while on duty.

Certainly there should be a criteria or at least a background check for an office of such importance.

Here's one for the "you're stupid" highlight.
Ballad - It's a song about love or a tragedy or something like that.
Ballot - It's the list of candidates to be voted on.
Bonus Item>
December 9th, 2013 - That's the day Bill Young filed a notice of intent to run. (You're late to the party. And, he only needs 500 good signatures so he has 100 extra. Now go out and vote against him so that we don't have half-wits such as yourself in office) The man is running as an independent because no party is going to affiliate themselves with a failed sherrifs candidate running for judge. Sounds to me like he's just looking for a job.

I saw the article in today's newspaper. It sounded like those 600 signatures still had a ways to go to be considered valid.

Since the above Anon knew the exact date B. Y. filed, could it be you, the man himself? Wow, you are still reading the blog?

I heard your x, another CLS cop, had her case thrown out of court. Both of you had to learn the hard way. If you sue an employer, good luck finding another job in that field.

Yea, it had to be the man himself. Why the heck would he put his name here when the other post didn't mention him by name? Ya can't fix stupid. Yet, he is running to be a Judge. God help us.

To help everyone know who to vote FOR in the election for County Judge it is County Judge Mark Henry.

Just like Billy Boy's run for Sheriff, his final vote results will be laughable.

Sure wish Lindy Merryman would spear head a similar program in CLS.

League City brings back rain barrel program

Posted: Friday, August 1, 2014 8:05 pm

LEAGUE CITY — Following up on the success of the last time it sold discounted rain barrels that came with a rebate on residents’ water bills, the city is once again offering its rain barrel/water bill rebate program.

Starting Monday, residents can order one or two of a new batch of 200 rain barrels. The 50-gallon rain barrels collect rainwater, which can then be used for lawn or flower garden watering.

We bought one of Stewart's Elem. fundraiser rain barrels. We were amazed how quickly they filled up after a rain. The only negative is you have to use the water fairly quickly or they stink and get nasty.

Our City Council needs to rethink the 50% green space being vegetation. Let's have it permeable instead. Let's save water!

We agree with the post about permeable versus vegetation in our yards. Let's face it, there are plenty of examples where the vegetation is unsightly, to say the least. In this part of the country, with the drought conditions not going away anytime soon, let's get more progressive and forward-thinking, Council and reverse your votes!

Maybe we need to look into permiable. I am not really sure what the rules are. Are you sure the 50% has to be planted green - there are lots of rock gardens that I see. Also consider more native drought tolerant plants. I 100% love my rain barrel that I got from Stewart Elementary!

Would some of you please educate me, as I am unfamiliar with the rain barrels. I like the concept thus far...must I have gutters and downspouts in order to fill a rain barrel?

Anonymous said...

Yes, but an alternative is to re-route your air conditioner condensate line out to a barrel. Upside is you collect water even when it doesn't rain.

Why won't they untie the trees at the entrance to the island is it because they are going to be in the way of the lights and the power lines or is there other problems seems like it has been long enough for them to undo them by now

Anonymous said...

They leave them tied until the string deteriorates and breaks. Leaving them tied up encourages them to establish their roots vs. growing foliage. The estimate was 4 months for the strings to break.

We should have started a pool, such as a football pool, as to a date when the strings would break!
