Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Fall is in the air!

Not bad Clear Lake Shores. Not bad at all. The nearly official count is 150 buggies. We are the largest golf cart parade in Texas and we can prove it! And we looked good doing it! Thanks to Watergate for handing out the WYC burgees. I hope you got one. I'm not sure how I did but I got one. I'm going to put it up in the Club House. If you had a good time thank the Mayor. If you didn't keep it to yourself.

If you hadn't noticed or maybe you're in the market, but there are three bales of hay at the golf cart parking lot at Jarboe Park. They are free for the taking.

On deck is the Civic Clubs largest fund raiser, the umpteenth annual Thanksgiving Feast. I'm talking 400 + pounds of turkey with all the fixins. It's THIS Saturday at the Club House and everyone is invited. I know I don't have to even say this but I feel the need. The Civic Club is a non partisan organization. At official Club events the Club House is a politics free zone. This past year was a trying one but it's over. Mostly. Everyone face forward, put on your happy face, and come to the Club House for a visit. Leave your crap at the bottom of the stairs.

Coming up next weekend is the CLS Police Department BBQ fundraiser. Chief, I want to donate a brisket and a chicken to your cause. Where and when do you want it?

From the EDC: Pay attention here, They need your OFFICIAL input!
The City of Clear Lake Shores will be applying for the federally funded TxDOT Transportation Enhancement Program reimbursement either to assist in the development of a multi-purpose bridge over Jarboe Bayou designed for pedestrians and bicycles. This improved transportation option will connect our residential area, civic area and parks principally located on the island to our Town Center, schools and future mass transit stops that are located within easy walking, biking and electric cart distance on the “mainland.” This is also a health and safety issue as it is very dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclist to cross the current auto bridge. We are currently in construction design phase with Lauren Griffith and Associates. Our Planners are Clear Creek Architects and Cobb Fendley will provide the engineering.  All improvements will be on city owned property and the project will not cause a tax increase as the city’s 20% cost share will come from economic development sales tax revenue funds. You can get an overview of the project at{23C1DA9B-3890-4FD9-ACFC-7408DE9940A6}&DE={92C79658-8774-448B-8603-0E185F747907} under the Revised Town Center Plan (Power Point) link. City Council has indicated full support and will be approving the attached (draft) resolution at their next regularly scheduled meeting.

As part of that project it is a requirement that the city supply letters of support. We are a little behind the curve on this request as the deadline for grant submission is next Friday, November 16th. I would like to request your assistance as civic club president in preparing a letter.  I will be glad to discuss this in person or by phone and answrer any questions. Also for convenience I have attached several examples from other TxDOT TEP grant applications and a 2005 City Council Special Meeting where this topic was discussed. Please address your letter to the City of Clear Lake Shores, Mayor Johnson.

The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind.

I am unclear what we need to do for the EDC to enable funding of the bridge. Do we need to write personal letters of support, or sign off on a "Citizen's Letter?" Pls advise ... and thanx !!!
