Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Smell that?

Of course you don’t. But you will tomorrow when we fire up the smokers in the park. We will do our best to be ready to server you plates of yummy goodness no later than 1PM tomorrow. Looks like we’ll have 6 teams and plenty of entries. Come out and come hungry.

And now for something Completely different. As part of the City’s 50th Anniversary we are hiring an aerial photographer. He will fly over the Island and the Golf Cart Parade and take some pictures. He has asked for someone who is familiar with the Island to help point out different points of interest and noteworthy places for our anniversary picture. He will also take individual pictures of your house for a fee. We have to identify these places prior to the flight on November 10th.  If you would like a personalized photo of your place or business let me know and we’ll get it on the schedule. Now for the fun part. The pilot asked if I would be the spotter. As much as I love to fly I have too much going on that day on the ground. I asked for volunteers and got a couple but last night at the Civic Club meeting someone offered a fabulous idea. We are going to auction off the spotter position in the helicopter and the proceeds will go to our Police Departments Bicycle Fund. This auction will take place right here on the blog. If, for whatever reason, you would like to bid on the seat but not on the blog drop me a line on the side and I will make your bid known but not your name. The bidding will stop on November 2nd so you have one month to make up your mind. Let the bidding begin

I think most of us like our animal neighbors. Whether in their natural habitat or with mashed potatoes and gravy. Whatever your choice most of us have been in a spot where one of nature’s finest was in dire need of help. There is a great story in the GCDN today that talks about The Bird Lady, Trudy Belz. Well Trudy has some help. Sharon Schmalz. Read all about it here.

From neighbor Pege Wright.
Hi Allan,
I am going to walk in the Breast Cancer Walk in Key West next month but I am going to try and raise some bucks before I go.
Do you think you could put this on your blog…I will be at the Bar B Que Saturday if anyone would like to donate and at almost every meeting this month at the Club House…
Since this is the Month for the cancer ribbon,, I am hoping for lots of contributors…

Have you considered adding to the amount of funds raised by selling the recipes? It is a great practice of the soup cook-off. Perhaps we can buy our favorites with bribes.

If this becomes an annual event, surely more cookers will be added each year.
