Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

It's Election Day

You have nothing more important to do today than to get your butt out there and VOTE! Do not dishonor the tens of thousands of American Men and Women who gave their all to provide you with this privilege. It is your right. It is your duty. Just in case you hadn’t heard I cast my vote for Judge Mark Foster. I have dealt with him a time or two and with all due respect to the others I think he’s the man for the job.

A big shout out to my brother from another mother, none other than the Toddster, Todd-bob, Todd-o-rama, Toddmeister, toddalamadingdong or the ever popular @$%^ head.

Happy Birthday big guy. I lost the coin toss so you’re cooking with me. Hurry home.

BBQ cookoff update!

Due to circumstances beyond our control the First Ever Clear Lake Shores BBQ Cook-Off needs to be postponed. Please do not call me or email me about this issue. We were juggling tennis balls and someone pitched a chain saw in. Running. We will try to have answers at the Club meeting this Thursday. Until then all I have is “ I don’t know. See you at sunset.

1817 - Pirate Louis Michel Aury resigned his Mexican commission to rule Galveston Island

A drunken man gets on the bus late one night, staggers up the aisle, and sits next to an elderly woman.

She looks the man up and down and says, I've got news for you. "You're going straight to hell!"

The man jumps up out of his seat and shouts, "Shoot, I'm on the wrong bus!"

I don’t know that I’m ready for August yet. It’s not like I have a choice but that means school start in a few weeks and that marks the end of summer in some places. I usually use Halloween as the end of summer. Hmph.

Officer Ross Eliason’s last day is tomorrow. Thank you for your service sir and all the best in whatever you decide to pursue.

If anyone knows someone looking for a golf cart there are several for sale. Sid has the gorgeous Texas paint job for sale and Lee has at least one in his yard looking for a new home.

BBQ cookoff news!

Lots of folks have been asking when they should show up if they just want some good eats. Here’s what we are aiming for. The first turn in is set for 4:15 and every 30 minutes until 6:45 and Awards as close to 7:00 as we can make it. The rules sent to the entrants and we have about a dozen so far is when an entry is turned in that product is made available to the public. The club is buying a couple of brikets and chickens and such and I will ask the team cooking them to have them ready by 5 or so. That should give anyone interested a great selection of yummy goodness. There will be a selection of cold beverages for everyone.

The last day to register is tomorrow.

Speaking of Walter & Beverly are offering seasoned Oak for anyone who wants it. If you need a connection drop me a line and I’ll hook you up. I’m going to get mine tonite.

Whats this I’m hearing about the City of Houston being the coolest city to live in? I read it yesterday but can’t find it again. A typo and retraction? Enjoy your Monday.

It's National Scotch Day!! I love this country...

Here we are and July is nearly over. In my book it's been a great summer so far.

Well we got a third and in my mind final offer from a movie licensing company. They want $250 as a flat fee. Yes, per movie. period. It's still up to the club to vote on but the way I see it one of our concerned neighbors has killed Movie Night as we know it. Thanks. You know I don't mean that right?

Hanna's Reef is playing in the park this Saturday night and they are playing for tips. One neighbor raised a lot of very valid questions over the event. If no one is sponsoring this concert does that mean any band can set up and play any time they want? Is that a good idea? I have visions of a hip hop wanna be band at 10 am on a Sunday. It's not pretty. Looks like a job for City Council.

Neighbor Beryl Dulson is going in to the hospital. Keep her and Wayne in your prayers.

Today is the last day for early voting. Election day is Tuesday. Git-er-done!

From neighbor Paul Garner, Taken by the bridge....

From Neighbor Steve. Thanks SP! The Curiosity Mars Rover, a rover approximately the size of a Volkswagen, will land on Mars on 05 August 2012 about 8:30 pm CDST. Signals from the complex Lander System take 14 minutes to get from Mars back to NASA on Earth. From the start of entry into the Martian Atmosphere to final touchdown of the Curiosity Rover takes 7 minutes, so the Mission Control folks talk about the “Seven Minutes of Terror” they will have to wait through to know if the Rover is dead or alive.

The video “Seven Minutes of Terror” is very good, and can be seen at:

Cross your fingers for us on 5 August.

Happy Birthday to

Wonder Woman! Lynda Carter is ….still hot.

Hey! Early voting started yesterday and we have a lot to vote for. I have never told you who to vote for and won’t start now but one of my votes is for Mark Foster for County Commissioner. I have met the judge on a few occasions and on both sides of his bench. All I ask for is fair and fair is what I got. That’s one. Election day is next Tuesday the 31st. For reasons unclear to me we have to vote in Kemah. How many other cities in the County have to vote in other cities? GET OUT AND VOTE!

Hannah’s Reef is playing at Jarboe this weekend. It’s not part of the Jammin’ program so they will be playing for tips. They start at 7:00 at the pavilion.

Civic Club meeting is next Thursday August 2nd. Come on out and see what we’re up to. Veep Sam Fisher has a lead on another movie licensing operation that we may be able to afford. She’ll tell us more at the meeting. Then it’s the BBQ Cook-off on the 4th followed by Jammin’ on Jarboe the 11th. It’s Spiny Norman. Not a typo.

Well the first 1,000 miles are behind us. A short hop via the Biloxi beach drive and. Were in Fairhope Alabama. some of our neighbors who are familiar with this area gave us the low down so we weren't completely in the dark. We were instructed to check out Manci's and we did. like an upscale Gilhooley's sort of place and the people were as sweet as the tea. Exactly what I'd expect in the Heart of Dixie. I had the spider sandwich. On to Orange beach. We managed to spend a little time in the afternoon and a good piece of the next day before the rain ran us off. Not a problem since we got to spend some quality time with the Reverend Jim Batchelor and his lovely wife Lynn of the Loxley United Methodist Church. Source of our big smoker behind the clubhouse.
A beautiful drive up Hank Williams Hwy exiting on to Alan Jackson Hwy and we ducked in to the Stone Mounain Marriott just as the daily rain caught up with us again. I can do this. On to our reason for this road trip, the worlds largest, The Georgia Aquarium.

Before I go lets talk about P&Z. I managed to get a quick peek while rolling through Montgomery at who is currently on the P&Z committee. looks like there is only one member and his time expires in a few weeks. First congrats to Craig Ward for steping up and I won't mention that it's about time. Next people, the fact that the entire committee is non existant is sad. Pathetic really. It's time for the rest of you to step the hell up. It's not hard and i don't want to hear any whining. Your city needs you. All the great things that made you want to move here did not happen on their own. It wasnt magic, it was because of the efforts of those selfless citizens who saw the need and responded. Reasons aside, Mrs McIntye recognized the need and responded. Time for you to do the same. I quoted an Island original last year and every time I repeat it it just makes more sense. Neighbor Chuck suggested that before serving on any committee a person should have to live here for 10 years. That way they "get" the island and aren't as anxious to change it the newer folks can be. Works for me. Good job Craig.

Happy Monday?

So here I sit, all perplexed, again. I have stated and pleaded many times on this blog for all you noobs to get involved . It's not important, It's critical. Thats what it takes to define progress. Know, That with out you, nothing gets better. Kaizan. If nothing changes there is no improvement. Short version, if you don't get off your collective asses this place will stagnate. Not sure what that means for you? Roll your window down just when you approach the high school. That's stagnant. On to the most pressing question in the hood. Why would an ex-mayor, ex councilman, want to serve on the Planning and Zoning committee? What an interesting question. In my humble opinion there is a game afoot. That's just my opinion based solely on my experience. Would love to hear more from my friends and neighbors. But to elaborate, what do you think it could be? Want to change the rules to let Fuller off the hook? Nah, that's old news and he has served his purpose. Want to re define an ordinance to embarrass someone? hmmmmmm. possibilities. Want to assist in the process to make this city a better place to live and raise a family? HA! What the hell was I thinking....I see the meeting going like this, Arline making the motion to nominate and the motion dieing on the vine due to a lack of a second or Richard seconding the motion for discussion. It could be interesting.......

Happy Birthday

Wyatt! It sure doesn't seem like twelve years...Up until yesterday he had never caught a fish. Honest. With a couple of other neighbors we arranged an offshore trip on the Capt John out of Galveston. The Capt assured us it was going to get bumpy once we got out in the open and, well, that's why he makes the big bucks. All in all it was a beautiful day in the Gulf of Mexico. We were somewhere east of the Freeport offshore anchorage by my best guess. I was informed we would be fishing a few "structures" whatever that means and a wreck or two. I know what that means. Wyatt caught the first fish that was a keeper in our group and it was all done with squid. Pat caught the biggest by far in our group but the biggest Snapper of the day would be able to eat his. Biggest Snapper I ever saw.
I heard she was the owners daughter, Jillian, who is definitely the cutest deckhand I've ever seen and she was worth the trip. The first King Mackerel that was brought in happened to be on our side and in her charge. After plunking in on the deck she not too daintily crushed its jaws with her right heel. OK. I asked why and she explained that she has too carry it to the cooler aft and they have a lot of nasty teeth. And it was fun. When asked how she handled sharks (there were 6) she explained how she rendered them silent with her pink bat. Or her "shark sedative". She told us of a suggestion by another female customer who while witnessing the sedation of one unlucky fish suggested that while applying the bat, to occasionally shout out some random male name, just to watch facial expressions of the rest of the fishing party. Jill, you made my day. Capt John and crew, thanks for the trip and the great memories.

Friend and neighbor Pege is back home from a hospital stay and even made it to the meeting. Welcome home hon and get better soon. That brought up a conversation that everyone needs to be in on. Your Civic Club has an agreement with a local florist, Jennifers Flowers, and we would love to hear of someone that would enjoy a bouquet of fresh, beautiful flowers delivered to them. Just let one of the board members or even Jennifer know the details. I mean, who doesn't love flowers?

If you weren't able to make the Civic Club meeting you missed the discussion on Movie Night. Short version is we can spend $150 per movie or $585 with a lot of restrictions or make it a private affair and show the movie on the side of someones house. The verdict is not in. A special thank you to, well you know who.

And the BBQ Cook-off is officially official. It was voted a budget of $500 to get it up and running. For a registration packet and the rules send me an email and I will send you what you need. July 31st is the cut-off date so don't wait until the last minute!

South pole?

Was reading an article about Titan. One of Saturns moons. They identified a “storm” near it’s south pole. How do they identify it as south?

Civic Club meeting tonight! See you at 7:00 in the Club House, I’m making popcorn!!
