Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

30 years later....

So just what were you doing in 1982? Lets a jog a few brain cells shall we. Some of you, this may hurt so sit down. Well, for openers the Niners won the Super bowl. The Shuttle Columbia completed her first operational flight. John Belushi blew waaay too much stuff up his nose. DeLorean was arrested with possession of 59 lbs ok coke. Somebody in Argentina thought it would be a good idea to invade the Falkland Islands. The Brits promptly recaptured them. It wasn’t cheap. 255 British, 1,000 Argentines die. Princess Grace died in a car crash. “Cats” opened on Broadway. A mysterious disease is reported that has a 40% mortality rate. They name it AIDS. Or like me I was eating chili at the 1st Brigadoon Chili cook-off. If you weren’t at the party on Narcissus you missed it. The chili gods smiled as they almost always do and the weather was perfect. Almost as good as the company. We had some folks fly in for their first time ever and some who have just been gone too damn long. It’s better than a family reunion. Civic Club President Dennis Roberson walked away with third place, Nancy and Lance took second place with their first time entry and I will forever blame it on the fact that you can’t(shouldn’t) cook when you have a cold as the reason I let Rob Scherer beat me and take home the trophy for what I am certain is his fourth time. Wait a second, he didn’t beat me he just tied me for all time wins. Game on punkin’ we’ll settle this in 364 days. Chili smack aside Congrats Rob you did it again.
Next up is the Civic Club meeting and since it’s always the first Thursday of the month its Thursday! We’ll finalize ManCakes which is on the 11th. Ladies, I really need your help. I don’t decorate. I have no taste you see. You know what I’m talking about too. I can see you nodding your heads. I can provide everything else but if I don’t get some volunteers to spruce up the ol’ Club House all I can offer is great mancakes and a lot of fun.
So after that will be the Mardi Gras Parade and I’m sure Dennis will be looking for someone to steer that event. Come to the Civic Club meeting and find out. Go check the cover of your Islander it will list everything the Club is lining up. And I hear the Talent show is going to be on the same day as the island wide garage Sale. More as it develops.
City Council meets on the 14th. They have 6 more meetings until election time. Time to start getting serious about who you want steering your city. That’s only 92 days away. 92!
I like this. Do you see anything wrong with it?
Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just
Pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more
Than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible
For re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
Took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple!
The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail,
Cell phones, etc.
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year
Or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to
a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask
Each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will
Have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed

; Congressional Reform Act of 2011 _

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no
Pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the
Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into
The Social Security system, and Congress participates with the
A merican people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all
Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and
Participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void
Effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
Contract with Congressmen/women.
Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
Envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
Term(s), then go home and back to work.
