One unnamed Houston Chronicle reporter. I stood by her last July listening to her assurances that at any moment an unnamed Councilman was going to drop a bomb related to “an investigation”. I guess she never wrote anything because as it turned out there wasn’t much to write about.
Here’s the latest.
Hello Ms. Mericle:
This will serve as my formal request under the Texas Public Information Act, Texas Government Code, §552.001 (hereafter "the Act"). I am submitting this request via e-mail after visiting the city's website. If you need this request submitted by regular mail or in any other format, please let me know and I will promptly submit it in that format.
This request is for copying and production of the following material within the timeframe spelled out by the Texas Government Code §552.221:
Monthly statements for any city credit card that is assigned to City Administrator Paul Shelley, from and including July 2010 through present date.
Specifically, we are requesting this information for any credit card that is either carried by or utilized by this employee for charges related to city business. If a personal credit card is used in this manner and then submitted for payment to the city, we are requesting any statements that are submitted as part of the reimbursement request process for the above mentioned time frame.
While we would agree to the full credit card number or any home address being redacted, we would request that any and all other deletions be submitted to the Texas Attorney General for an opinion, pursuant to the Act.
As you know, the Act provides that if portions of a document are exempt from release, the remainder must be segregated and disclosed.
Since some of the documents may be more readily available than others, please provide the documents that are available as soon as possible without waiting to provide access to all documents.
The law (Tex. Gov't Code §552.261[a]) states that fees can be waived in the interest of serving the public. If that is not possible, I promise to pay reasonable search and duplication fees. If you estimate that the total fee will exceed $50.00, please notify me so that I may authorize that expenditure.
If you have any questions regarding this request please call me at (713) 778-4946 or fax (713) 771-4930.
