The first day of summer is finally here. Thanks to TS Cindy we are in the shade with a substantial breeze. Not bad huh? For fun stuff about the The Summer Solstice check out one of my favorite sites.
Thanks for all the well wishes for the birthday boy. We tried a new recipe on a new dish we call Texas Fish n Chips. We started with a tried and true English beer batter but instead of a pint of brown beer we used a can and a half of Lone Star. We kicked it in the butt with a tablespoon of Chipotle and instead of Cod we picked up some gorgeous Red Snapper fillets from Baybrook Seafood. We fired up the grill ('cause Momma said so) and fried them up in my old cast iron skillet outside. The best part? Aside from the eating, My son did it all. From start to stop I got to sip on a tasty little single malt and watch. Happy Birthday/Fathers Day to me! Then my Honey made this.
Yep. My favorite. Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Carrot cake and coffee for breakfast. 😁
Winding up the Islander archiving. We'll start with 2006 where Jarboe park is about to open and our PD is having a garage sale. They are getting ready to move from the old fire station to the new barn on Birch. Can you think of a better time of the year for an Ice Cream Social than August? Nope. So we had one. We had the big clean up party at Darlene Sanders house and later that ear the Civic Club would buy, stuff and bury a time capsule. This was also the year of the bird. If you were here you know what I'm talking about. If you weren't here you were lucky. The Crutchfield property on Pine became a full fledged rookery. In the beginning it was truly awesome. Truly. Thousands of Herons, Crested Night Herons, Egrets, Cattle Egrets and a Great Blue Heron or two. Three months in it was a full fledged nightmare. I tried to count the nests in one of the small trees close to the street and I stopped after fifty. If you had the option you would not drive on Pine between Forest and Ivy. It literally rained bird crap. The ammonia stench would take your breath away. There was so much crap for so long it that killed many of the smaller trees on the property. Enter the cannons and neighbors who didn't live in the immediate area. All they could think of was how pretty the birds were and we had no right running them off. And then they would go back to their nice smelling quiet house blocks away calling us names the whole way back. It was not a pretty time. WCID put in new water lines. Every street on the Island was under construction. Imagine the joy. Tomorrow will be the end of this story with 2007. See you then.
Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab
