Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Another beautiful day in paradise

I've been told to keep this short.
Our 7 year old GE QuietPower3 dishwasher has been fired. For reasons we are unable to ascertain it dumped a gallon of water on our hardwood floor. Again. Momma says strike three and yer out the door. It is white and other than being contrary a time or two has functioned well. It has been relegated to the curb where it will remain for the rest of its' life or Tuesday. Whichever comes first. If you new around here, stuff sitting on the curb does not last long. The curb genies appear and poof! Want a "working dishwasher? Hurry.

1980 saw category 5 hurricane Allen spin up in the Atlantic, beat the snot out of Jamaica, then parts of Mexico and take aim for Galveston. At the last minute he took a weird left turn (they usually turn right) and head to South Texas. I say that to say this. It was so big it raised the tides in Galveston bay to within inches of the Club House' newly renovated pine floors. Remember it was still on the ground in 1980 but still. All you noobs out there keep in mind Hurricane season starts at the end of the month. And there has already been one. Yep. Arlene. Yep.
Watergate had a big growth spurt. It was to become the largest privately owned marina in the country. I do know it held that title for quite a while but I do not know it it does still. Anybody?
I found one more restaurant name that occupied the building where Skippers is. I go back as far a Beto's but in 1980 it went by Mr Z's Italian Kitchen. And last but not least, before Mancakes, The Club held a Chili Cookoff for Valentines Day. How romantic is that?
Enjoy your weekend Clear Lake Shores
