IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

This one's near and dear to my heart

It's National Jeep Day! I love my '97 TJ (O|||||O). If it wasn't so dirty I'd post a pick.

Don't forget the Civic Club meeting tomorrow night. We get to pick new officers!!

An Insurance tale, part II
One afternoon I decide I am going to find the damned elevation certificate if it kills me. I open the file cabinet and starting with drawer one folder one I begin. One folder, One page, at a time. By the time I get to drawer two I am not feeling the love but I know it's in here. I can feel it. Halfway through I come across and old work folder with old work crap in it. And a stack of papers that had been faxed to Fidelity Insurance in 2010. Bingo.
I call Maxim back and ask them what my premiums are and what would they be if I had the house elevated. Well, she says I can't calculate what you might pay without seeing an elevation cert. I'll be right over I says. I take the whole folder that had once been faxed to a once insurance provider to Maxim offices. Very interesting she says. Looks like someone might owe me a refund I says. Well, she says I don't know if they'll go all the way back to 2010. Why would they not I says. I'll see what they say she says.
Yours truly is not holding his breath waiting for a speedy reply. I'm expecting them to take a few weeks to create some road blocks. They do not disappoint. As most of you know we lived in the house during the lift. That's a whole 'nother story. As stated in yesterdays opener we had to get a new elev cert before we could pay the lifting crew to get off the property. A WHOLE NOTHER story. Maxim, who in theory is our agent has it pointed out to them and hence points out to me that in section C-1 on the EC the box is checked Under Construction. It seems the Sonsabitches that I have been overpaying consider the job not complete. It evidently does not matter that the lift is complete. They want the whole job to be complete? Doesn't matter that it was completed enough for the last payment from Fidelity. So whee are we I ask Maxim. You obviously need an elevation certificate I am told. And the tale goes on.

City Council encourages positive public comment and discussion during its meetings and reserves time during most Council meetings to hear such comments from either Scheduled or Unscheduled Visitors. However, the Texas Open Meetings Act places certain constraints on topics raised by such visitors where such discussions are not related to an item that has been placed on the Council's posted Agenda (Attorney General Opinion JC-0169). The most effective way for an individual to have their voice heard and receive feedback at a City Council meeting is to contact the City Secretary no later than Noon on the Wednesday prior to an upcoming Council meeting and request that their name be placed on a future agenda as a Scheduled Visitor. When you make this request, please state specifically the subject you wish to discuss. The City Secretary will place your name on the Agenda along with a specific description of the subject to be discussed. If you fail to provide a specific description of the subject of your requested discussion, then Council will have no choice but to refer the matter to City staff for response or defer any feedback or discussion on the matter until a future Council meeting when the subject can be placed on the Agenda. Comments should be limited to five (5) minutes and directed to the entire Council, not individual members. Engaging in verbal attacks or comments intended to insult, abuse, malign or slander any individual shall be cause for termination of speaking privileges and expulsion from Council Chambers.
In compliance with the American with Disabilities Act, the City of Clear Lake Shores will provide reasonable accommodations for disabled persons attending City Council meetings. Requests for interpretive services must be made 48 hours prior to this meeting by calling 281-334-2799 or by faxing to 281-334-2866.
