IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

National Devil's Food Cake day

Annually celebrated on May 19, it is National Devil’s Food Cake Day.  All chocolate lovers will enjoy this day when they eat their share of delicious“Devil’s Food” cake.
“Devil’s Food” cake is rich, divine chocolate cake.  It differs from a regular chocolate cake by its darker color and tends to be more moist and airy.    A difference in preparing the “Devil’s Food” cake is that hot or boiling water is used as the main liquid.  Cocoa is typically used in the batter, as opposed to chocolate, and coffee is added for a special flavor.  A rich chocolate frosting usually accompanies the cake.
It is believed that the “Devil’s Food” cake was invented in the United States in the early 20th century.  There is a recipe for a “Devil’s Food” cake as early as 1905.
It may be that this cake was named for its contrast to the snow-white “Angel Cakes” that were being made prior to the “Devil’s Food” cake.
“Devil’s Food” cake is one of the country’s most popular cakes.

 From neighbors Kirk & Kathy
Could you get the word out that next Sunday I am having an open house. We will have food and limited adult beverages so BYOB is a good idea.
Our band The Nite Caps will be playing and they are awesome. The band starts at 7 and car parking will be limited.
We are looking forward to dancing in the street on Sunday the 25th.
921 North Shore.
Thanks,
Kirk Koepsel and Kathy

From the President  Debbie
A camera was left by someone from our community at a house in West Kemah when they went to pick up a vase.  If this is you, then please call Joe Lee's seafood kitchen at 281-535-0148 to arrange to pick it up as Joe is holding it for you.
Thanks,
Debbie

                                It's DRAG RACE TIME!

It's time for one of the most interesting events on the Clear Lake Shores Social Calendar.  The 9th (?) Annual Clear Lake Shores Drag Race Extravaganza!

On Sunday, May 25th the brave and beautiful "Ladies" will be called to the starting line at about 7:30 for the customary parade around Lowell Brown Sunset Park.  Afterwards the ''girls'' will go before the judges to determine the lucky trophy caretaker for the next year.  Diane Johnson is making her famous sashes for this years event too.  Thanks to the research and efforts of Paula Brown we will be collecting donations to support the Houston Food Bank.  There will be donation boxes for canned goods and donation cans for cash or whatever you choose to give.  This is going to be dishonorable behavior for an honorable cause.  If you choose to dress up or just come watch please bring a donation so that we can support this charity and show that - though we may be of questionable character and often display poor judgment - The people of Clear Lake Shores are good people and we are willing to share for a good cause.

This event is not limited to Clear Lake Shores residents only so try and trick any off-island friends and unsuspecting relatives into dressin like a girl and showing up at the park between 6:30 and 7 pm on Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend.  It's always a fun-filled evening with more entertainment then you will likely want to see.  It's a display of poor taste, bad outfits, overstuffed bras and pure ugliness, however there will be kids present so let's keep it as clean as we can considering it's a bunch of men dressed like ladies drinking cocktails and prancing around a park.

There are really no rules.  You can't win two years in a row, so we don't have to compete with Frank's sexy legs this year.  Try to keep it PG-13 and have a good time!  The judges will be announced at the last minute to minimize the opportunity for bribery.  But again, there are really no rules!

..Just a heads up...within the past 12-24 hours someone stole our battery charger for our golf cart. It had to be someone that knew where it was. It was in a blue plastic box - for weather protection- and it was NOT visible from the street. They grabbed it and ran..cause the extension cord was all the way in the driveway out near the street.

Twice this week I have seen children, not teenagers, driving golf carts. I just don't understand why a parent would allow this.

I, too, have not only seen the children driving the carts recently, but with adult supervision!

On another note, please keep Bud and his lady friend in your thoughts and prayers. They were involved in a crash in Kemah involving their golf cart and a motor vehicle which was supposedly doing 30 mph. I heard they sustained sufficient injuries requiring a hospital stay overnight, but that they are on the mend and are home now. No details regarding fault but a serious reminder for all of us to be careful.

Sad, but if the kids continue to drive the carts around our island, it is only a matter of time before one or more become injured. Then, not only will a child (or children) be harmed, but our tranquil island life will be ruined by the endless parade of news media and the possibility of the state law regarding use of carts on public roads changed! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the love of God, if you see a child driving a buggy, call the police.

What is worse than one child driving? Numerous children having a grand time driving around.

One neighbor actually brought her damaged mailbox to a City Council Mtg. that several kiddos drove right over it. Did they call the cops? NO!

This is one problem we can solve! Get involved.

For the Newbies out there, the Drag Races are not child-oriented in any way. Now with it open to anyone, versus residents only, there is no telling what may happen. That's my opinion for what it is worth.

Can anyone recommend a good handyman? Small projects around the home - hanging shelves, etc. Thank you.
