IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

NATIONAL BUTTERMILK BISCUIT DAY

National Buttermilk Biscuit Day is celebrated each year, in the United States, on May 14.  Today is a food holiday designated to the biscuit.
Biscuits are made using baking powder or baking soda as a leavening agent rather than yeast.  A typical buttermilk biscuit recipe contains flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter and buttermilk.  They are often referred to as “quick bread”, indicating they do not need time to rise before baking.

Prior to the American Civil War, biscuits emerged by cooks as a cheap addition to meals.  While being made, the dough was beaten and folded to incorporate air, which expanded while baking, causing the biscuit to rise.  The biscuit soon became popular as the people realized the hardness of the biscuit, compared to a slice of bread, worked better to wipe up gravy on their plates, creating the well known meal, biscuits and gravy.

Alexander P. Ashbourne patented the first biscuit cutter in 1875.

Calling all Bunco Players! Don't know if you saw the notice or not but it's tomorrow night at the Clubhouse. Adults only please.

And ready or not here they come!!

It's DRAG RACE TIME!

It's time for one of the most interesting events on the Clear Lake Shores Social Calendar.  The 9th (?) Annual Clear Lake Shores Drag Race Extravaganza!

On Sunday, May 25th the brave and beautiful "Ladies" will be called to the starting line at about 7:30 for the customary parade around Lowell Brown Sunset Park.  Afterwards the ''girls'' will go before the judges to determine the lucky trophy caretaker for the next year.  Diane Johnson is making her famous sashes for this years event too.  Thanks to the research and efforts of Paula Brown we will be collecting donations to support the Houston Food Bank.  There will be donation boxes for canned goods and donation cans for cash or whatever you choose to give.  This is going to be dishonorable behavior for an honorable cause.  If you choose to dress up or just come watch please bring a donation so that we can support this charity and show that - though we may be of questionable character and often display poor judgment - The people of Clear Lake Shores are good people and we are willing to share for a good cause.

This event is not limited to Clear Lake Shores residents only so try and trick any off-island friends and unsuspecting relatives into dressin like a girl and showing up at the park between 6:30 and 7 pm on Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend.  It's always a fun-filled evening with more entertainment then you will likely want to see.  It's a display of poor taste, bad outfits, overstuffed bras and pure ugliness, however there will be kids present so let's keep it as clean as we can considering it's a bunch of men dressed like ladies drinking cocktails and prancing around a park.

There are really no rules.  You can't win two years in a row, so we don't have to compete with Frank's sexy legs this year.  Try to keep it PG-13 and have a good time!  The judges will be announced at the last minute to minimize the opportunity for bribery.  But again, there are really no rules!
It's a good thing I was born a girl, otherwise I'd be a drag queen.

It was suggested that we follow the bird lady home and throw bird seed and such in her yard/under her trailer. See how she likes it. Or how her neighbors like it. Either way, I'm in for a bag of corn.

She told me that she feeds them where she lives and CLS. I think she told me she lives in an apartment in League City. Complain to City and they should handle it.
