IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

We made it!

Happy National Weed Appreciation Day. I suppose that means different things to our neighbors in Colorado. Here's one for Texas though. It's also National Something on a Stick day.
Well it is officially Spring so I guess i'm off the hook with my lousy weather anticipation. 'Bout time. Is it just me or was that a really long and chilly winter?

On some of those anon posts, let it go folks, just let it go. It's yesterday's news.

We heard back from the Yachty Gras folks. The plan for now is to present a $2,500 check to the Scouts at the May Civic Club meeting in the Clubhouse. Sounds like a party. See you there.

Did you know City Council has formed a committee to look at different options for a pedestrian bridge? Want to know more? Contact a Councilman or better yet come to a meeting.

The City is also looking at options that would allow users to close in the Paul Shelley Pavilion for a host of reasons. Lots of options and equally lots of issues there.

Here's the dumbest thing I read in the paper today. Courtesy of the Daily Mail Home issue.

Father builds guillotine and chops off his own hand in bid to end years of agony after accident left him in pain but doctors did not help...and it still hurts.

they told him it wasn't in his hand. ....

We have been keeping an eye on the newletter's Parks' report for word on the dog park. Still nothing. It seems a few members of this committee have dropped out. Sure hope Council finds out why.

Last night (Saturday 3/29) Eric Klusendorf killed one of his dogs at Sundial Park, then harassed and taunted a mother and her two daughters. He had two dogs with him, took one home dead, he killed it in front of the two kids and a mother. CLS PD were called, cops show up and see the dead dog and let him just walk on home, saying ahh that's just Eric.
I had no idea who this creep was at first, only to find out he is the sculpture guy and contributor to the island newsletter. Keep your kids and dogs away from this guy.

Doesn't sound like the Erik I know. He loves his dog. And I cant see the CLSPD saying anything close to that. I gotta call BS on this one.

AB, talk to officer Holley, event#2014-058282. He killed one of the two dogs that were with him Saturday night. I don't know which one is his, or both, I was told both. Go check on the well being of the second dog then, Officer Holley saw it dead. He killed it in front of my two kids.
What is even more disturbing is his behavior toward the 3 girls. I understand you might be friends with this guy and are coming to his defense, but I would be more than happy to meet with you and tell you the complete story.

Just saw in the Civic Club minutes that the Yachty Gras was a success. Obviously, this coming from an insider to the free food and booze. The rest of us users, moochers, and parasites also known as taxpayers are not so sure of the story. The math on this event just does not add up. The City kicked in $2,000 (city council minutes from Dec 3, 2013) and the Civic Club another $897 according to Peggy. The 20 or so boats that participated paid the $65 entry fee ($1,300) the other 65 sponsors that paid at a minimum of $100 ($6,500) and as much as $500 each ($32,500). A "VERY" conservative estimate of $10,697 of funds raised on the low end and as much as $36,697 on the high end while the Sea Scouts got $2,500. Hum, $8,197 to $34,197 for the private party. At best less than 25% went to the charity that attracted the funds and as little as 7%. Not such a success in my books unless you're one of the ones that was yucking it up in the park and sucking down the free food and booze paid for by the city. I've heard these people say the they party for a purpose. Yea, get someone else to pay for your party, that's your purpose. These ass clowns need to be run out of town. What a sorry excuse for a fund raiser. Has anyone seen the State and Federal forms that must be filed to be a non-profit. I tried looking them up and they are not listed. Don't think this was their first rodeo either. This was the Fifteenth Yachty Gras parade. No wonder Kemah didn't want this is their city. Jan and Amanda had it right when they voted against this. Gentlemen, you should pay more attention next time. Also get a copy of their required filing to the state to see how much of what you donate actually goes to the charity. Do not trust professional fund raisers as they pay and feed themselves first and then hand over the leftovers to the charity they were promoting. Outrageous!!!!

The yachty gras parade is a freakin joke. I've lost respect for many on council and those in the civic club that can't stand up and admit it was a looser of an event all the way around. Unless you were at the park. And if the story is true about Eric and the cops do nothing we need to get the Sherrifs office involved or some agency that will handle it properly. If all of this is true our PD is going to look real bad. Back in the news we go.

Someone had posted a link to a law suit during the yachty gras that said the exec director of the yachty gras was guilty of fraud against an insurance company during Hurricane Ike. She appealed and lost.....

Be very aware!!! Especially if he approaches you and your children and tells your children to "be very quiet and act normal when this golf cart passes by" as he is trying to walk off with you while dangling one dog in the air by his leash and collar.

How did he "allegedly kill the dog? Strangle, broke his neck?

So sad kids saw this horrid act.

It sure doesn't sound like the cops I know. Many times we do not know what follow-up was done by them.

Did one of his dogs bite or attack one of the kids and he majorly over reacted? Don’t know Erick well, but always struck me as the mellow, peace, love, take it easy hippy dead head around.

The police report states that the officer responding Saturday night to the animal cruelty call was told by Erik that his 15 year old Boston Terrier Bo, had died of heart failure. Erik told the officer that he knew the end was near and he was out with his dogs for a late night walk. The officer reported Mr. Kleusendorf was visibly and emotionally distraught. No charges have been filed. My personal condolences neighbor Erik. Bo was a good dog.

Every loving owner should let their dogs last moments be spent under brutal attack and followed with death by hanging.

Stephanie said...

Seriously, did you see the dog alive and happy and then watch him beat the dog to death or did you see him with an already deceased dog and he's "crazy Eric", so you assume he killed it? There is a huge difference in how I feel about this story based on which one is the truth. It is horrible no matter what, but can someone please tell specific details. I have always known Eric to be quite eccentric, but to love his dogs and be a nice guy. If he truly murdered his dog in front of kids, his "quirkiness" has gone way too far.

The group who says they "party with a purpose" are the Parrot Heads. To my knowledge they had absolutely nothing to do with Yachty Gras.

I wanted to clear up a few points on the killing of the dog we now know to be BO. Eric had two dogs on leashes Saturday night at Sundial Park, both jumping around and playing with one another, the dog that is currently still alive, was being the aggressor of the two. Eric was seen jerking the leash/collar of BO violently, so hard in fact, that single action alone was enough to snap the dogs neck. Moments after this action, he held the dog up in the air, hanging by nothing more than its collar and leash. My 14yo daughter yells at him "you're killing it, you're killing that dog!" He said, "you want me to kill it? I'll kill it!" My wife yells at my 14yo to call 911 while she was trying to get my 7yo away from the situation. When he hears "911",he yells, "you better not call the cops!" My daughter did in fact call 911 and report a guy that appeared to be on drugs or drunk strangling his own dog.
I would like to note several things here.
1.We have never met Eric and had no idea that was who this individual was initially, so when the call went into police, it was a report of an unknown man. A neighbor that took my wife and kids to her house, told them it was Eric. Then after talking to the police, they confirmed the individual was in fact Eric K. This is important because we are not trying to fabricate a story to slander a person. We do not know him to be "crazy", eccentric, hippy-like, good, or bad before this incident.
2. The notion that this dog was just old, and somehow Eric was taking it on possibly its final journey that night is absurd. That dog would still be enjoying its days here on earth had it not been for the actions of its owner that night. Of course if you ask Eric he is going to say it just died on its own. Do you think he is going to tell the cops he strung it up and strangled it? Hell no!
3.I am the husband and father of the 3 who witnessed this action. I was not there, but heard first hand from both of my daughters and my wife about exactly what happened that night. I raced home as fast as I could when I got the call that they were scared to death. And I was there when officer Holley arrived at my house to interview them.
4. I met Allan B. three years ago at a party and was told about the islanddrumz blog, and have been an active reader since to learn about the goings on around the island. But I have never posted any comments, not one, until after this incident. The reason I decided to post about this incident is to make the community aware of a disturbing sequence of events that happened Saturday night and let people form their own opinions based on the facts.
5. You can believe Eric, that is well known to some of you, that the dog just killed over due to heart failure that night. Or you can believe 3 girls that were out for an evening walk that night and witnessed something that horrified them, so much so a 14yo calls 911 to look to the police for help and possibly save this dog. We have nothing to gain by fabricating a story.
6. As someone commented earlier, outsiders don't always get to here about the follow up investigations and the like. And I don't plan on updating every step of the way, sometimes the wheels of justice turn slow, and sometimes they don't turn at all, that is not for us to decide. I would like to thank the Chief of CLS Police for his due diligence and professionalism.
7.I don't plan on addressing every comment from this point forward, as I don't plan on trying to convince everyone to sway their opinion. Some people will just believe what they want to believe, and I am just fine with that.
8. I would hope that someone would get some help to where it is needed, and friends and family could encourage that. Hopefully this was just an isolated incident and will never happen again.
Thanks and God Bless.

Thank you and I'm very sorry for the horrible experience your family endured
There is no excuse. That's awful and NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. When eccentricities turn violent...its time for someone to go!

Anonymous said...

I can't speak for the community but thanks for informing me.

Thank you for the details as awful as they are. I am heartbroken that you confirmed what I had feared. I hate that what could have just been a horrible accident was turned into something so terrible. It is a sad situation for our little island of dog lovers and people who appreciate Eric's oddities. I regretfully fall into only one category now.

What did Chief Cook do?

Anonymous said...

What Chief Cook has done has built one of the most professionalaly recognized police departments in Galveston County. This place was a joke prior to the new staffing. The officers speak highly of the City administrator and the police administration. Officers have told several friends, while working at the club house that Sgt. Donaldson is the best supervisor in the state. "He has knowledge in every field and holds the officers to the highest standards" I have heard nothing but positive things about Sgt. Donaldson. One more thing about Sgt. Donaldson, a bartender at Aspens said there was a female that was stranded and the police were called to check on her. The bartender said Sgt. Donaldson entered the sports bar and spoke to some people at the bar where they were trying to raise money for a cab to the bus station in Houston and a bus ticket out of state. Sgt. Donaldson pulled money from his pocket and pitched in. The bartender said between the three guys they donated a total over 400.00. Who does that? Who is this Sgt. Donaldson? Where did Chief Cook find him? Why is he here? I think a blog should be done on this guy on a daily basis!!! Kudos Chief Cook for a great job.

Captain Donaldson*

Just to bring everyone back to reality: State law recognizes Powys as property. Therefore, if you want to destroy your own property then you have every right to do so.

To the father of the family, thank you for your post and honesty. I think as a community we all care about our neighbors, as odd as some may be. We can all have our difference in opinions about each other as well. We will make our decision on how we choose to look at this situation and how we can live with it from this day forward.
Yes, he is talented and adds a different quality to our island, but people change.
I can only hope that this doesn't go unnoticed or that Eric doesn't get away without any consequences. People who are in his situation and abuse any type of drugs/alcohol will not get better but only worse. I think we all can say his appearance has been deteriorating. Hippy, free spirit, dog lover or not, people under the influence will cross boundaries at one point or another.

Thanks for taking the time to give us the facts of the story. I like to see this blog used to present first hand knowledge of things that happen. Most of us are smart enough to draw good conclusions but sometimes the most rediculous nonsense gets posted that has no basis in fact and is presented by someone who got it forth or fifth hand. It takes courage to stand up like that.

Anonymous said...

Maybe someone should call Chief Cook, he is honest guy and will get to the bottom of what went on with Eric.

Hypothetically-
If someone were to be seen "walking" a deceased dog, it should throw up an enormous RED flag whether Crazy precedes their first name or not.
