IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Well?

It looks like what began as a soft opening morphed into the Grand Opening for Aspens. We got there as close to 7 as we could given the short notice. It looked like a nice crowd from where I was sitting. The food needs some work though. I had a facon, lettuce and tomato and was not impressed. You know that precooked stuff you can buy? Diana H says she calls it facon. Bingo. In all fairness though I must admit I am a bacon junkie so for me to be impressed it has to be waaaay past good. I did hear the pizza was not bad though. I had a nice time overall, it was good to go somewhere new and close and see all the familiar faces. Kinda like going to sunset but with cigarette smoke. A definite turn off for me but it’s not my call. The back deck was a nice get away. Were you able to make it? What did you think?

The Sandbar is progressing.  Word from WCID is last week the requested a cost breakdown for the water work that has to be done by the WCID. Baby steps…..

THANKSGIVING DINNER CHAIR PERSON OR PERSONS - the really big day is November 16.  The good news is we have many, many dedicated volunteers to help with this undertaking, and a detailed "play book" of what needs to be done.
We've had a lot of practice!

The turkey cookers are ready to go.  We need YOU or a committee to chair this event.  Reply to this email if you are willing to Chair or serve as co-chair of this event, -  see Allan Batchelor or Jan Finnerty.
We’re looking for a Chair for the Block Party in September and I hope you’re collecting your recipes ‘cause the 2nd annual CLS BBQ Cookoff will be here before you know it!

I get irritated when people come down on our police officers, saying that the police don't care about or respect others. Well, here is a story that clearly shows not all cops are in that category.
This story involves the police department in the small hill country town of Fredericksburg , TX who reported finding a man's body last Saturday in the early evening in the Pedernales River near the state highway-87 bridge.
The dead man's name would not be released until his family had been notified.
The victim apparently drowned due to excessive beer consumption while visiting "someone" in Kerrville .. He was wearing black fishnet stockings, 6 inch spiked heels, a red garter belt, a pink G-string, purple lipstick, dazzle dust on his eyelids, 2½ inch false eyelashes and an Obama T-shirt.
The police removed the Obama T-shirt to spare his family any unnecessary embarrassment.

Not sure how to post to the Blog.

But if I read the new FEMA maps (see link) correctly, FEMA is proposing to change the base elevation for Clear Lake Shores from 11 feet to 14 feet.

You will need to put in your address and click the flood hazard box on the left

I read about the poor guy in Kerville and I couldn't help but worry that Todd had gone to the hill country. Maybe on one of those "canoe" trips

Aspen needs to work on good mixed drinks, too. Could be a fun place once all the kinks are worked out. Hate that the Sand Bar is going so slowly. They are the mecca of our community.
