IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Happy Friday to me

Tomorrow is the last day to file your paperwork to run for City Council or Mayor. The pattern in the past has been to wait until the very last minute to file. Not sure why anyone would want to appear to be sneaky about such a thing. Maybe it’s just me. We might get lucky and be able to save several thousand dollars if the current three runners are all. Then we don’t have to have an election and spend the roughly $8,000 that it cost the city to hold an election. It’s about time we got lucky.

Talk about spending your money, We get to send our City attorney down to Galveston, AGAIN, to represent the City in it’s case against former Councilman Fuller. You will recall last month he had his attorney ask for a new date. Well here it is. Anyone want odds they’ll ask for another continuance? I hear the original suit for back taxes is still open too. There’s your tax dollars hard at work. Karma time?

Saturday evening is Paul’s Party across the street. Hope to see you there.

Jury Duty next week. How’s that for crappy timing.

It's GO TEXAN Day!

YeeHa! Got yer boots on? I don’t care if they hurt your feet go get your boots on. You probably paid too much for them and you only wear them every other year or so. Today you have a reason. Go get ‘em. When the Trail Riders get in tonight it marks the kick off of the Red Neck Mardi Gras AKA the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Don’t forget YOUR Farmers market. They’ll be out there in force rain or shine. If you haven’t been in a while you really need to treat yourself. There are all sorts of new vendors out there just for you.

I heard Mayor Vern Johnson has officially tossed his hat in the ring for Mayor again. Thank you Mr. Mayor for your years of service. You have my vote.

Tuesday it is.

Mancakes was a hit. If you missed it you missed something. THe kitchen crew rocked it like nobodys business. We served just under 100 plates and that doesn't count all those who came back for seconds and even thirds. That was a new record. Here's where I give a shout out to the Farmers Market management team. THey bought breakfast for their vendors and that accounted for 30 plates all by itself. Thanks Jennifer and David. Maybe next year it will look something like this

9. ADJOURNMENT

This from neighbor Alyson. I gotta add my two cents. I agree 110% on the plastic. I think it will be the bane of civilization. We need to do something and maybe this is it. What do y'all think?
I have seen way, way too many plastic water bottles and other beverage containers in Texas streams, creeks, bayous, bays, and gulf, including a plastic water bottle stuck in the throat of a pelican skeleton.   These wastes are actually valuable resources that can be reused, if collected and returned to various industries.  Beverage container deposits have proven to be an effective incentive to return these materials to the market place.  It's time for Texas to take advantage of this "nest egg" on the ground!

That's why I signed a petition to The Texas State House, The Texas State Senate, and Governor Rick Perry, which says:

"Establish beverage container deposits and independent free standing redemption centers, so Texans have incentives to keep Texas streams clean!"

It has several pins on it that have sentimental value.
