IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

36 hours to go....

I just wanted to let you know that we collected 140 stuffed animals for the Harbor View Nursing Home Residents. I gathered my elves on Christmas Morning. Sarah and Brittany (on the piano) led the group in Christmas Carols, while Kendall and I went room to room distributing stuffed animals to those that were bed bound. We wished each person a Merry Christmas!
A big THANK YOU to all who donated!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours, from Team Elf

Recycle that tree!
Citizens can recycle their Christmas trees at the League City recycling center at 1535 Dickinson Ave. A sign will indicate for the trees to be placed on the ground next to the recycling bins. Please do not put trees in any recycling bins as street department will be picking them up and mulching.

It's Boxing Day !

It's traditionally the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses[1] or employers. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December. It is observed in the United KingdomCanadaHong KongAustraliaNew ZealandSouth AfricaTrinidad and Tobago and some other Commonwealth nations. Thanks Wiki.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Just as we get settled into the bliss that is our gorgeous little Island I get crap news like this from neighbor Greg on Oak.

Hello Allan,
We had two beach cruiser style bicycles stolen from underneath our house a few days prior to Christmas.  One was all white and the other was matte grey.  Pls pass the word to others to keep an eye on their stuff and to watch out for their neighbors..

Keep your eyes open folks. If we look out for each other these dirt bags don’t stand a chance.

Don't forget Snow Day this Friday @ 1p.

The front of the Island is starting to take shape. Looks good so far. Good Job EDC.

3 days to go

Clear Lake Shores Snow Day is next Friday the 27th!

  Carolling Carters rehearsal, 5:15 tomorrow.

A Christmas Joke
Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

'In honour of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.'

The Englishman fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It's a candle', he said.

'You may pass through the pearly gates' Saint Peter said.

The Scotsman reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.'

Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'.

The Irishman started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, 'And just what do those symbolize?'

The paddy replied, 'These are Carols.'

And So The Christmas Season
Begins......

4 shopping days left

How time flies. Wyatt and I are going to attempt a trip to the mmmm, mmmmm, I can't even say the word. Baybrook. I'm sure it will just be him and me and a hundred thousand of our closest friends. Oh well....Hey,  for all you friends, neighbors and otherwise please be safe if you're traveling and hurry home. Merry Christmas Y'all

Here's one just for you ladies who don't know what to get your favorite guy who has everything. I will personally vouch for this prize winning smoker. You've all seen it around the Island and now you can have it for pennies on the dollar. The first $1,200 takes it home and it pulls like a dream behond a golf cart. And it looks cooler than $hit to boot.

Hey it's not too late for bears,
I am collecting stuffed animals for the local nursing home again this year. I would love to have one for every resident. Sarah and her roommate Brittany will be going with me to distribute them on Christmas morning. They are going to provide the music. (No don't worry, I will not sing). This was a big hit last year. It even brightened the day of some of the male residents too. I currently have 30 something in a closet ready to go. They told me they have about 168 residents.

Our address is 226 Narcissus. Tom has placed a large plastic box on the left side of our entry way with a sign.
Thanks in advance!
Diane

I got this from a couple of neighbors.

Monday, Monday.....

How 'bout those Texans!? OK I'll stop.
Looks like there will be a special meeting tomorrow night with the EDC and the City. It's about the City's involvement with the Yachty Gras Parade coming up in March. Now before you just blow the meeting off remember this one little thing. They are holding a Special Meeting just to discuss how to best  spend a lot of money. I'd get there early, sounds like a lot of fun.

Congrats to Keith Emmons on winning First Place in the Boat Lane Parade!

That's a regular sized orange, a really big green bell and three of the biggest lemons I have ever seen in my life. Neighbor Tony stopped by over the weekend and asked if I wanted them. They were in a bag and at first I thought they were grapefruits so I was all ready to pass. He corrected me and I when I opened the bag there were. Monster lemons grown right here on out island. Who knew?

Another beautiful day

I hope y'all had a chance to go the the Civic Club's Christmas party Friday night. I heard it was fabulous but considering the two Hostess' I expected nothing less. The next time you see Shanna or Priscilla tell them thanks for a great job!
Is it just me or was that one of the smallest turnouts for the Christmas Boat Lane parade? I know it was a tad chilly but I had on my freezer suit so it wasn't an issue. Anybody hear who won?

Anyone in the market for a big upright freezer? I have one looking for a new home. Will trade for a bottle of scotch. No. I won't help move it.

Just a reminder for friends and family
At this time of the year, when the roadblocks come up with great regularity I would like to share a personal experience with my closest friends about drinking and driving.  As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from an occasional social session over the years.
A couple of nights ago, I was out for an evening with friends and had a couple of cocktails and some rather nice red wine.   Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before; I took a cab home. Sure enough, I passed a police road block but, since it was a cab, they waved it past.
I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise as I have never driven a cab before and am not sure where I got it or what to do with it now that it's in my garage.

Busy times

OK two things up top. The Club meeting is Thursday and we need you there. As a general rule I leave you alone ( for the most part) but we really need to hear from you Thursday. See you there.

Next RCR will have a lift on the Island for some tree work starting tomorrow. If you have a need now is the time. It'll even save you a few $$ and who doesn't need that this time of year.

Aspens is having their Grand Opening this Saturday the 7th. Yes I double checked it this time. Slim Simmons is doing his acoustic set starting at 3 then Ben Reyna from 6:30 til9:30. A DJ will take over until 10:30. Beer promo girls and shot girls will be there to take care of you in the meantime.

This from Councilman Booren:
Good afternoon! It’s not too late to donate! I am still collecting items to send a great big ginormous care package oversees for our troops just in time for the holidays. The donation will go toward an organization called Blue Star Mothers of America, who will package everything up and send it on its way.
Please consider purchasing an item or two and making a donation. You can drop it off at my house, or I will come to you to pick it up.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, either monetarily or with items. Clear Lake Shores is AWESOME!
Attached is a list of items. Surely you can find something on this list!  :) I need to have the items by THIS THURSDAY, December 5 so I can load up my car and take everything to Humble on Dec. 7 for a packing party.

PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR!!!
Public Meeting to Discuss Bacteria in Jarbo Bayou
BACTERIA STUDY

The Houston-Galveston Area Council, in conjunction with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), invite you to join us for a Public Meeting to discuss a Bacteria Study (TMDL) for Jarbo Bayou.

Meeting Details:
December 12, 2013
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Club House
931 Cedar
Clear Lake Shores, TX 77565

About the Bayou
Jarbo Bayou, located in Galveston County, is a tributary of Clear Lake. Since 2002, high concentrations of bacteria, which are found in both human and animal waste, have been observed in the bayou.

The presence of these bacteria may indicate a health risk to people who swim or wade in the bayou-activities referred to as "contact recreation" in the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards.

Why a Public Meeting?
The purpose of this Public Meeting is to:

 1.  Share Study findings, to-date;
 2.  Receive feedback from the community; and
 3.  Present information on next steps.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, H-GAC will provide for reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities attending H-GAC functions. Individuals requiring language interpretation or those with special communication needs should contact Kathy Janhsen<mailto:kathy.janhsen@h-gac.com>, Public Outreach and Education Planner, at least 24-hours prior to the event.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all

It's a beautiful day with lot's to be thankful for. May your turkey be moist and you have more to be thankful for than you deserve. Enjoy your day off and wave at those who are working today patrolling our streets.

Did you make it to the Town Center groundbreaking? At long last progress! Thanks for all your hard work and perservereance EDC

What about the Coffee with Cops? Captain Donaldson tells me it was a success and they are planning another outing. Hopefully the weather will be a tad more cooperative.

Your presence is requested at the next Civic Club meeting. It's next Thursday and this is a big one so I need you there. Our fair City has been asked if we would be interested in being the new host for the annual Yachty Gras Parade. If there is a party to be thrown you know the Civic Club will be hip deep in it. I sat in on a meeting with the YG folks and the City Administrator. We got the low down and I think the Yachting Capitol of Texas is just a natural fit for this gig. Short version is their President will be on the our agenda at the meeting to tell us about the event and answer any questions we might have. Our participation (pronounced “money”) will be voted on at the meeting so I’d really like to see a bunch of smiling faces.

From neighbor Sid:
Alan ,  I was trying to find any and all web sites around the area that have
event info and news for folks to findout what is going on.
HERE is a new website you could mention in your web page/blog ,  I will send you the list I make)
This is just something of interest that I wanted to put together to help folks stay informed.

This'll do..

Thanks for coming out to the Civic Clubs annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Missed you Jimmy Mann. I hope you enjoyed yourself. If you did, tell your neighbors, If not tell me. We raised a few bucks for the Club and had an awesome dinner with family and friends. It doesn’t get a lot better than that. Next time you see Pege Wright tell her what a great job she did on the event. She ran everything that went on in the building. And for outside the building all kudos’ go to Bryan Hoerner and his A Team. Again. For the past 7 years they have been cooking all things turkey.
Thanks to John we have an updated membership list. Some of you can expect an email real soon. Thanks all round.

On deck is the Christmas Party. More as I get it

A few of you are looking for the City Council agenda. I usually don’t post it here because it is such a pain in the ass to convert it to a format that the blog will accept. Way too much work. If you look over there —->, on the right side of the blog page you will see a Websites list. The bottom site is the City’s web page. If you click on it the new and pretty dang cool web page pops up and one of the first buttons you see is Agendas & Minutes. Just click that square button and select the date you’re interested in. It won’t get any easier than that, I promise.

I got a chance to talk to Roxanne a little bit and she reassured me the Sandbar is back on track and moving forward. YAY SANDBAR!

No more Ramblers

All gone. My first trip to the left coast was in a 62 Rambler Wagon. Just thought you ought to know.  Anybody else spend any quality time in a Rambler? I'll accept AMC just 'cause it's a Jeep Thing. You carheads know what I mean.

Hey! The Annual Civic Club Thanksgiving Dinner is THIS Saturday. Please make plans to attend. You can't beat the price or the food. Pege Wright is still looking for a few volunteers to fill in the blanks. You can contact her or me. I promise you'll have fun!

This from Senor Beans:
I will be playing at Aspens Bar and Grill this Saturday night (Nov 16) from 7 ~ 11.  Aspens is a new little neighborhood bar in Clear lake Shores located at Aspen and Clear Lake Road (directly across the street from the Opus Bistro).
I have been fortunate to be playing a lot of private events lately, but I don't get to play for my friends and neighbors enough this way.  This is a good opportunity for us to get together and have a brew or two.
Vince, the owner is hoping to  expand his customer base by adding live music by folks like me!  It is a cozy little place in a cool location.
So, if you can, come on down to CLS and join me for a cool Saturday Night!
