Quite a crowd on the east side last night and what a spectacular fireworks show. Thank you again Mr. Fertitta for 20 minutes of spectacular wonderment on our nations birthday. Trust me when I say there was near deafening applause from your neighbors to the west. Thanks again.
Great turnout for the picnic and membership drive! We signed up 19 brand spanking new families! WooHOO. To all the new folks welcome, and don't be strangers! Our goal is to foster community involvement and we do it with and for you. Our regular meetings are the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 in the Clubhouse. Except for this month. We moved tonights meeting to next Thursday. Hope to see you there. We'll be going over the membership list in the next few weeks so if you didn't get a chance to join or renew your membership I'll be sending out reminders via email. Feel free to call me or email me and I'll come to you if that works better. Congrats to Dave and Adelia of Juniper on their First Place win in the Golf Cart Parade! Remember to get it back to me so we can get it engraved. Second place is Karen Ghormley of Hawthorne and First Place Kids went to Makenzie Skinner of Narcissus and her Bike. Congrats one and all! A HUGE shout out to Greg Stanfield and Suzanne Hubbard and fiance Dan for the excellent job of organizing the parade. It's a lot more work than it looks like but they made it look easy. And after all that, Greg was called away and wasn't able to see the fruits of his labor. Dang. And the last thing I'm going to say about the parade is the lovely and talented Diana H. has graciously volunteered to be the official counter for the next event. That way we'll get a real number and no more guessing. Thanks D.
Thanks to all who brought out a side dish to share with your friends and neighbors. And if you enjoyed the hot dogs Team Dowell gets all the kudos. Glenn and Al Burns are folks that can always be counted on for for good eats.
Neighbor Ashly convinced her vacationing sister Tiffany and her fiance to help keep all our kids entertained behind the pavilion. With Kalyn Hoerner helping to ride herd on the L'il Darlin's they had a ball in an otherwise boring grown up world. Lets face it you just cant go wrong with Bucket Races, water balloon toss and tag on a hot July day. Thanks Ashly!!
Last and certainly not least, but somebody has to be last right?, I want to thank Richard Sowrey and his lovely wife Elaine for sitting in on the membership signup table and providing your hard working club board members a break. Too my wonderful wife who was there just because she is my wife, where would you like to go to dinner honey?
Next up is Jammin' on Jarbo. It's set for Saturday at the pavilion. Bring a chair and a cooler and your dancin' shoes. This time out we'll be entertained by Scott McGill and Old Dog Mac. Oughta be a hoot. Hell, even the name is fun to say.
Water Wars V is now a memory. It's funny how the battles grow and the victories multiply with time. All in all it was a success. Latest on Kim is she was coersed in to going to see a Dr. and injuries seemed to be limited to the goose egg on her forehead the nasty cut on her chin and one solidly bruised ego. Get well soon my friend. Yes we had our first blood spilled. Even though it was a combination of rookie drivers (all adults) and a mechanical malfunction Our friend and former neighbor Kim Shore got banged up and Jackie C's golf cart lost a tire in the collision. I hope every one realizes how much worse this could have been. Certainly all the adults that were present at Fort Otto were made aware. A huge Island Thank You to two off island guests who also happen to be Drs that just happened to be on the scene. Now that's Good Karma. To you thick headed dumbasses out there that think jr can drive a golf cart while being blasted with water, hot and cold, while navigating traffic, well lets just say I hope you wake the hell up before reality bitch slaps you in to the back seat of a squad car and since that's the nicest thing I can say so I'm done.
August 4th is the first ever BBQ Cookoff. Everything is on track. I hope to put the finishing touches on the event this weekend.
From neighbor Stephanie:
On this date in 1937, SPAM was unveiled by Hormel Foods. It is precooked pork and ham in a can, with a little potato starch, salt, and sugar. Sodium nitrate is added to keep it pink; without it, pork tends to turn gray.
There's no consensus on what the name actually stands for; one theory is that it's a combination of "spiced meat" and "ham." In Britain, where it was a popular wartime food, they called it "Specially Processed American Meat" or "Supply Pressed American Meat." A host of tongue-in-cheek acronyms have also arisen, like "Something Posing As Meat," and "Special Product of Austin, Minnesota," Whatever it stands for, Hormel specifies that it should be written in all caps.
" Common sense is so rare these days it should be classified as a superpower" unknown
Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab
