IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Wake up

First order of today’s business is to remind you of the Civic Club meeting tonight. Pot luck dinner starts at 7 and the meeting begins at 7:30. We have tons of stuff to talk about. We will have all Club shirts half off. Here’s the official invite. Someone remind me to look for two blue shirts for Officer Akin.

Dinner at 7:00, meeting at 7:30
A - K Bring entrees
L - R Veggies and Salads
S - Z bring Desserts
Come, help us plan for a really, really big July 4th parade, picnic and silent auction to benefit the scholarship fund to Seniors who live in Clear Lake Shores and meet the requirements.
Needed for the silent auction - Gift certificates to local restaurants, time share/condo, sports event tickets, gift baskets,
and what- have- yous.

The Fourth is when we renew our Civic Club Membership - so bring a check or $20.00 bill along. Its the biggest bargain in town and includes THE ISLANDER.

Movie Night. We will attempt to pull off the very first ever Drive-In movie night. That’s right it’s BYOBug spray because it’s in the park. We will do our best to have the popcorn machine in place and ready to go but we need help.
The 4th of July Parade and membership drive. We need many volunteers for the auction, enrollment, sales, clean up etc. Greg Stanfield will need help on the Parade part. Be gentle with him, it’s his first time.
The BBQ cook-off. We need to bounce some ideas around before we pick a date. Glenn and Bryan and Jim have started the ball rolling.
The City’s 50th celebration. Suzanne is off and running but it keeps getting bigger and bigger. HELP! You know you want to be a part of this!

Next. Were you at the City Council meeting? What did you take away from it? I’m sure everyone had something they took home. You know what I still can’t get over? I’m seriously stunned. Stick with me. See if you get it.
Agenda Item 3 is Committee Reports and it went like this….
EDC? There was a brief report from Ronnie
Waterfront Compliance? No response “when was the last time they met”?
Planning and Zoning? No response “have they met? Not in …..”
Roads and Drainage? No response “have they met? Not in …..”
Parks? No response “have they met? Not in …..”
Pool? No response “have they met? Not in …..”
Civic Club? I spoke for a while mostly because I was embarrassed at the lack of representation from the other committees.
What the hell people? You think this place runs by itself? Have you already managed to forget the crap we just got over due to our apathy? GET OFF YOUR BUTTS and do something! Get out there and meet your neighbors. The magic that is why you moved here in the first damned place is that WE get out there and make it happen. It’s time for you to step up. Breaks over. It’s not hard it just takes time. And I don’t want to hear any whining about how hard you work. We all work hard. Well most of us anyhow and most of the others have earned their time off. It’s your turn, get after it.

This from Paul:
Our Town Hall Hurricane talk will be 13 June 2012 at 7pm at Club House.
Thank you,
Paul Shelley
City Administrator
City of Clear Lake Shores

Jammin’ is Saturday night. Come out and enjoy The Dennis Davis Band. You may remember them from Frank’s benefit a few weeks back.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.”

Paul Shelley says we still need positions filled on Planing and Zoning and Zoning Board of Adjustments. Planing and Zoning meets monthly and ZBOA meets when needed. Please contact Karen at City Hall if interested.

LIFE CHANGING OPPORTUNITY

Are you tired of your friends, sick of hanging around all of those happy go lucky CLS golf carters and all of their beer parties and fund raisers? Do you have that need to chase pepole off of your property for no reason? Would you like to learn how to disregard all facts and spew utter nonsense while keeping a straight face and actually believe what you are saying no matter how rediculous it may be? Do you have trouble sleeping or are you an early riser, we can loan you one of our club bathrobes so you can wonder around your yard in the middle of the night and shine lights on your neighbor or investigate their lawn ornaments. Have you ever dreamed of being part of the glitz and glamour of the courtroom or just dont want your kids getting their hands on your money when you kick the bucket? We can show you how to get sued and and be part of the courtroom action. If your life is going well we can fix that. We have taken ordinary citizens and ruined their lives in CLS to accomplish our agendas. We have taken down perfectly good cops and others that became followers of ours are now in jeporday of loseing their jobs. It is less than a year until the next election and we might be able to help put you in office so you can ruin your life as well. Most of us are old and angry and hope you can be like us someday to carry on a tradition we started two decades ago. What are the qualifications to join you ask? Not much. You need no education or experience in anything. It helps if you are a quick study in becomeing an angry, bitter, hateful person and can and are willing to follow the leadership of the queen bees. Being unemployed is a plus as you would have pleanty of time to pursue our agendas. Sign up now time is wasteing. Once in the group you will enjoy the benifits of really boreing waterfront parties at the annex and quilting bees. If you are semi literate you can be part of our website. Its really kind of a mess right now but maybe you can help us figure out what we are doing. Do not miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Join NS now, it will be the first day of the end of your life as you know it.

They party too! Don't forget - Kathy put this open invitation at the end of her plea on the other Blog to vote for Bernie for the Water Board: "We are also planning to party here when the polls close. You are invited."

Did anyone go and party with them even though her plea for votes for her man went unanswered and his campaign ended disastrously? I bet that party was a real hoot. I wonder if Tambra lead all of them in song like she did when she was elected?

You just couldn't make this stuff up. Awesome.

what i took away from the meeting was bawwwwwwwbraaaa got a certificate for her work. for doing what? rarely showing up for edc meetings, contributing nothing while there then quitting. for pretending to be some purchasing expert and giving paul a hard time because he wouldn't let her run the show? for harrassing the "girls"? for accuseing Vern of being a felon?

I will be there tonight! I may even volunteer to help with the 4th of July Parade since it will be practice for the 50th Anniversary Record Setting Golf Cart Parade.

I will be seeking volunteers to help with that special event. First off we need donations. If you have an "in" with any of our businesses and would be willing to accompany me to ask them to support our anniversary it would be a tremendous help. If you cannot attend the meeting tonight but can assist with a business contact please email me.
hubbs502@verizon.net
If you can be there tonight and want to help with a business contact or in any other way, I will have a sign-up sheet.
Thank you,
Suzanne

Suzanne,
First of all you can count on Spice Lady for a donation. It might be nice to have a T Shirt that businesses could get their name on as a sponsor for a specified donation. I am thinking we could have a T Shirt design contest too - maybe make a childrens competition to get them involved. Mark was saying he had some sort of sign left from his parents 50th maybe we could use at the clubhouse. Also if we could get something in the Islander requesting stories and pictures and put together some sort of book for sale. I will help with that. Buzz told me a story about how sunset Lowell Brown park came to be - interesting stuff we don't want lost. Maybe Ms Val has pictures and the story of her house being moved to the island. Another idea - get the kids to do the interviews. OMG my security word was nsFibs how funny is that!!

Thank you, Adelia, for being the first business to provide a donation! You go girl.

The plan is to have a special T shirt designed for our 50th Anniversary with all the sponsors on the back of it. We also have permission to use the old Oakies' logo and the old Sandbar's logo. Maybe those can be on the sleeves? Not sure. Allan has someone who is going to take care of the T shirts.

Pege Wright took over the Parks Committee since Bev had to move out of the country. I am sure Pege will address CC at the next mtg.

Carlo is putting together a book for the 50th Anniv. He is looking for volunteers to help with it.

Some of the committees have not addressed Council in a long, long time.

Ronnie is the only one that consistently addresses Council. He is a fine leader of the EDC. And talk about being busy...Whew, he juggles so much. And he writes a monthly column for The Islander. What a role model for being a great member of this community. I wish more people would try to be like him.

In addition, he has managed to live next to Crazy Tambra for as long as he has without going crazy himself.

Anonymous said...

Yea but if you notice his house is for sale.

Anonymous said...

No one, currently living here or any one they know off the island, will ever buy the houses next to " " Perkins.

Sadly it carries the NS CURSE

Darn, once again I cannot go tonight. Got a sitter for Tues. can't do it again. Wish the meetings were the 2nd or 4th Thurs. of the month.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Scott, you actually read the other blog? I tried once but realized it was not worth my time.

Allan, thanks for putting the number thing as one of the two words we must type. It is a bit easier.

Anonymous said...

Dude, do you even know how stupid your post is.....

Anonymous said...

I think he meant Scott reads the "other" blog. The low tide one.

Anonymous said...

To the apparently reall cool guy who likes to say dude. Which post are you calling dumb

Scott said...

Of course I read the "other" blog. I love it. I wish they would post their drivel on there more often. It is like reading a train wreck, if that makes any sense.

Actually, it reminds me of the times when I visit my 90 year old grandmother in the Old Folk's Home and I accompany her to the dining room for lunch. The NS postings on the blog are like a written diary of the stuff I hear all the old folks talking about back and forth while sitting there eating. Amusing stuff.

Great Civic Club mtg. last night. Allan, you are such a fine leader. You will have a great influence uniting the community. Thank you for all you are doing. I wish I had bosses that could cover such a lengthly agenda in such a short time. What a culinary delight, too.

Yes, it was a great, action-packed mtg. The next one will be the Thurs. July 12th instead of the 5th. I liked that a lot. Sure hope many more people will attend. Mark your calendars now. It was good to see so many of the newbies there.

Not sure though if planning all the 50th anniversary stuff in Nov is a good idea since it is when the bigget Civic Club event takes place. The Turkey Feast needs all the volunteers it can get. We don't want to spread ourselves too thin. Just saying...

Does anybody know why they are looking at fireing Deniese? Is anyone else on the chopping block? Looks like karma really does exist.
