IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

ahhhh rain

What a change from last year huh? We're about 5 inches ahead of normal for the year and about 14 inches ahead of last year. Just look at the green lawns.

Heads up!
A celebration of life will be held for "Rabbit" at Jackie's Brickhouse Saturday, June 23rd from 12-5pm. Everyone is welcome to come. We will have an appetizer buffet set up to enjoy and serving $2.00 Fish Tacos in his honor from 12-5pm (Those were his favorite!)
We miss you already, Rabbit! Rest in Peace my friend.

It's Movie Night! Old school! We did a light test last night so looks like we'll get started about 8:30 with Captain Ron! We'll have cold drinks and popcorn for sale. See you there!

Now the bad news. I sat in the shade and watched 48 vehicles move through the intersection. It was between 6:30 and 7:30 last night. yes it is a busy intersection. Of those 48 3 cars, 4 golf carts and a bicycle came to a complete, and I mean complete as defined by the police, stop. 10 vehicles ran the stop sign. They did not touch the brakes. Three were bikes 4 were buggies and 2 were cars. I will give all but one credit for at least taking their foot off the accelerator. The rest of the traffic came to near stops. Near. Maybe we can change the signs from stop to slow down please?
What to do....

A TV can insult your intelligence, but nothing rubs it in like a computer.

Which intersection? Those stats are horrible! Maybe Kenny should know and he can have an officer patrol more at that location.

I certainly would not want quotas, but one the opposite end, I have heard very few tickets have been issued this past year.

Anonymous said...

I wish Kenny would verify that tickets are way down. He could provide a statement at the next Council mtg. It would be very easy to state it objectively. Simply compare the revenue from last year this time to the previous year. Get the facts.

Good to know about Rabbit's memorial. Thx.

Some people write things here just so they can lure someone into a fight. They truly like to fight that much and I am trying to learn not to buy into it. Good rain this morning and it looks like it will clear up in time for movie night. We were talking about some classic phrases from Capt Ron last night. No we won't be selling likker so bring your own in cups. We will have popcorn and SOFT drinks available - come support the club watch a good movie and have a good time with your neighbors.

Anonymous said...

No likker being sold? Darn. I bet NS wanted to bust up the event. Sorry " " and friends.

Saw a truck come blazing down Forest last night. Took a left on W. Shore without even stopping at the sign. Whatever happened to officers patrolling using the harder to see police golf cart? I haven't seen that out in a long time.

Golf carts blow right through the stop sign on E. Shore and Elm all the time. Most of the time its kids/teens that do it, but the occassional adult is guilty as well. They don't even slow down or take their foot off the accelerator. And cars/carts alike FLY down E. Shore above 20 mph all the time. I'm surprised my son hasn't gotten run over yet trying to ride his bike or scooter out of the driveway. I thought maybe it was just this location but it doesn't sound like it!

I will stick these 8 post in Kenny's mailbox at the PD. Kenny can inform everyone to start writing tickets on the island to whoever or whatever runs a stop sign.

Everyone up for that. Kenny and the Officers will know they have our support in putting an end to the Stop Sign situation. Remember it will be across the board enforcement and can't be selective enforcement.

Anonymous said...

Who the heck would want selective enforcement?

I am fairly certain Vern, Paul and Kenny read the blog. Probably most of our officers read it.

I hope they start at whatever intersection Allan mentioned.

It is amazing there have not been more accidents.

I watched a truck do 40 down east shore and even over the speed humps and not slow down. There are alot of children on E Shore and Speed humps are a necessary evil for the speeders to slow down.

NO FREAKIN SPEED!!!!!!! BUMPS ARE YOU CRAZY IN THE HEAD? FOR GODS SAKE WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? HOLY SHIT THAT IS THE DUMBEST IDEA EVER. YOU HAVE LOST YOUR MIND. DID I MAKE MY POINT?

Anonymous said...

No no no speed bumps. I hate driving thru Walgreens parking lot due to their speed bumps.

Rob Brown said...

We have speeders on the North end of East Shore as well. Today someone drove off in the ditch right before Juniper. They took out the "Slow" sign and barely missed a tree. Judging by the tire tracks, definitely a car or truck and not a cart. I heard the noise from inside the house, but they were gone before I made it outside.

The officers arent patroling because they are hacked that they dont get paid enough and the only way they can revolt is not to write tickets. Too much politics and not enough policing

Anonymous said...

Wow, someone got out of the ditch quickly? They must have practiced their techniques a lot.

A city this size can't pay more. They need to find a place that does pay more. Follow the money.

Or at least do the job requirements here. If there are raises, they should be based on job performance. If an officer hasn't written tickets or served warrents = no raise.

Anonymous said...

No revenue from tickets will mean a raise? Where will the funds come from? Sounds like they are going about it the wrong way.

Anonymous said...

That sounds like the same logic of teachers wanting a raise so they revolt by not teaching the kids. No logic there. In fact it will result in poor reviews which lead to a tough job change.

I changed jobs many times to get more money. It is not fun but sometimes it is the only way to increase your salary.

You'd think they slow down as much as the sheriffs dept is out they slow them down.

Police department on strike? I feel real safe now. Whats being done to fix this???

Chief Kenny should be Held responsilbe for their behavior, its his job now isnt it?

I love you hypocrites. You want your illegal carts on the road, you want your underage child driving your carts, you want your liquor in your cup, the City pays for a margarita machine and the Civic Club sells liquor and beer illegally, President of the Civic Club openly belittles women and is a political activist, you openly plot to over throw the Police Dept., you approve of theft and misuse of City Finances, you use the law to attack individuals who you consider a thread to your agenda, and that is just scratching the surface.

You want more tickets? I think the Officers will enjoy writing more tickets for all infractions of the law but will Allan, Al Burns, Mayor Vern, Chief of Police Cook use official suppression to stop it like they did with the nozzle to the keg. Will Chief Cook stand guard in his police uniform to protect the illegal sale of alcohol again???? Come on you hypocrites, this has been a great joke reading your posts today. The funny paper on Father's Day won't be as good as this

The above post gets the prize for skewed reality. I doubt if NS will ever give up on the fact that there was never misuse of city funds let alone theft. It is hillarious to see how they waste their time.

How much fun was last night! Thank you Allan, Adelia, Dave and all of the great folks of CLS that made it happen. We live in the best place ever. When is the next movie night?

Anonymous said...

We had a blast last night! Thanks to the person who had this idea to begin with and to all the people that made it happen. Allan, you are a great leader of fun.

Anonymous said...

Yes, last night was fun, fun, fun. When is the next one? and the one after that?

Thanks to all that made this happen.

Official supression?? Hilarious... NO SUCH THING

Hippocrites? Exactly, you should know, your clan is well versed in hippocracy.

If only the majority of us were a fraction of "educated" as the minority of your clan...

Then we'd all walk in circles and drool.

Illegal carts on the road? How are they illegal? I have insurance and a slow moving triangle.

Also, please realize that our streets are so narrow that it's much easier for carts to maneuver. Some streets are so narrow that two cars cannot pass each other.
