IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

May 29th

I hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did. 4 days in a row is kinda tough though but with a lot of help I managed to make it through. The Harley’s got some TLC, The Jeep got new carpet, spent some quality time in a yard pool, Birthday parties, dock time, and then there was the craziness that was the 7th annual CLS Drag Race. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. My best guess is right at 200 folks were there to cheer on the 19 contestants. 19. And if you just back from the moon Todd won. Again. Feel free to post a link to your Face book page if you want to share your pictures.

Lets talk about traffic this Friday. Yes it is a big deal. See the note below for what the rest of the lake is doing and note the time the Kemah bridge will be closed.

This from Chief Cook :

CLSPD Officers and GCSO Deputies will be in place to enforce traffic control and the designated no parking areas.

"One Way Only" Roads:

Hawthorn = W/B only

Rosewood = S/B only

E/ Shore - N/Shore (Shell Bottom to Rosewood) = "counter clockwise" one-way traffic only.

"I wish everyone to have a safe, and wonderful time"

Did you take a moment to remember why we have this holiday? Good for you, I knew you would, I still can’t hear Taps without getting choked up. And a missing man formation turns me into a blubbering fool.

Did you get all your voting done? You damn sure better get it done. Remember what happened last time you got lazy? OK I’m done.

The bridge closure will take place sometime between 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (time is subject to change). It is estimated the bridge will be closed for thirty minutes.

Once the shuttle clears the Seabrook-Kemah Bridge it will then continue moving through Clear Lake and dock at the Johnson Space Center NASA Road 1 dock next to the Nassau Bay Hilton hotel between 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Space Center Houston will hold an event in celebration of the shuttle’s arrival beginning at 2:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1. In the interest of public safety prior to, during and after the event, both the east and westbound right lanes of NASA Pkwy will be closed. The lane closures will occur between Upper Bay Road and Space Center Blvd.

Lane closures will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1. After event traffic has subsided the westbound right lane of NASA Pkwy will reopen. The eastbound right lane of NASA Pkwy will remain closed from Lagoon Dr. to Space Center Blvd.

Traffic congestion on NASA Pkwy is expected due to lane closures, increased event traffic and spectators. Police officers and DPS will be directing and monitoring traffic in the area. It is advised that motorists who are not attending the event find an alternate route during this time.

NASA Parkway Lane Closures on Saturday, June 2

Read Advisory

On Saturday, June 2, 2012 the eastbound right lane of NASA Pkwy will be closed between Lagoon Drive and Space Center Blvd. This lane will be closed to ensure the safety of NASA personnel while they prepare the shuttle for ground transport.

Congestion may occur throughout the day, as equipment will be moved in and out of the work zone. Police officers and DPS will direct traffic as needed throughout the day.

In order to keep traffic flowing motorists are advised to observe and obey all traffic signs and public safety officials. Do not stop or slow down to view or take pictures of the shuttle.

Emergency vehicles will be given priority access if needed. Proper ID will be required to enter the roadblock. St. John Hospital personnel and visitors are advised to arrive or leave the hospital prior to 5:00 a.m. or after 9:00 a.m.

At 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 3 the traffic signals on NASA Pkwy at St. John Dr., Upper Bay Rd. and Saturn Ln. will be removed. Officers will be directing traffic at each intersection during this time. Traffic signals will be immediately replaced after the shuttle has passed each intersection.

Thank you, Kenny, for being proactive by getting the word out early. This may be a good plan for the 4th of July, too.

Dan and I are so psyched for the Shuttlebration!
