IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

It's the Weekend!

Hot off the wire! There is some cut up Pecan wood on the Oak Street side of Mike Bass’ lots. Craig said it is free to anyone who wants it but it will be hauled off today so hurry up!

We're pretty much set on what we'll do for the Drag Race. We'll be looking for:

Femininity (looks like a girl)

Walkabililty (Runway walk)

Do-ability (self explanatory)

And probably just looking to see who's hot. :-)

Diane and Jennifer have made an awesome sash and I picked up a silver sequined crown for the winner.

From neighbor Suzanne,

Plans are coming together for CLS's record breaking golf cart parade. Keep the ideas coming! The tentative date is Nov. 13th. So far... state and county dignitaries will be invited. Our Mayor and Council will lead along with our City Administrator and city employees’. Previous mayors and council members will be towards the front along with any dignitaries that participate (judges, sheriffs, commissioners, etc.)

Some folks want to decorate their carts to commemorate something historical and some hysterical. Some don't need to be decorated at all.

If you want to get involved, in any way, let me know.

Explorer is on her way!

To all who plan to travel this Memorial Day weekend please look out for the other guy. We all know it’s their fault. Be safe and for the Love of God take 60 seconds out of your weekend to remember why we celebrate. Here’s to all our men and women who serve. Get out there and enjoy your long weekend!

In thinking how the Civic Club or the City could raise funds for our 50th, here is a bit of a nutty idea for June 1st. Why not charge an entrance fee for nonresidents? You drive on the island for free if you have a windshield sticker or are in a golf cart. The fee could be as low as $5.00. (The Seabrook beach charges $10.00 a person in a car.) A side benefit would be many residents will be sure they have a sticker. Something to consider...

I aam all for a fundraiser for the 50th but if you remember the garage sale you will want to support the closing off of the island for this. I want to be able to see this wonder with my grandson - not compete with outsiders for the waterfront or not be able to even get to the waterfront. Good energy towards the 50th but I think we should find something else.

I agree with keeping it private. We get enough hangers on for the 4th as it is now I dont understand the mentality of continuing to invite strangers into our neighborhood. Dont we have enough thefts here already with out bring more folks around. I had to run off people all day on my property from parking during the garage sale. We have enough contractors speeding thru here daily, lets not add to the misery I prefer to keep our slice of paradise a secret.

Turning CLS into a Gated Community makes a lot more sense for property values than wasting the $10s of thousands - if not well in excess of $100k on EDC "studies" for a mini-me version of Kemah.

We are victims of our own success in "promoting" the Island beyond our own shore line. Keep the Riff-Raff off the the Isalnd and our streets save for kids on bikes, folks walking their dogs, and golf-cart pilots.

Before we know it - some "do-gooder" will want to invite the press and expand our island water fights.

Islanders for Islanders - the rest can bugger off:)

I'll be glad when we start sending our own crews up again without help from Putin!

I am sooo against a gated community here. I do support what EDC is doing and the beautification of the entrance. I see us as a happy medium between kemah and South Shore - I wouldn't want our island to become either. I also don't object to people coming on the island or sharing our fun (although I did not like it when the segue guy put sunset on his tour). I just think the shuttle thing is going to draw a major crowd and would rather keep the traffic off the island for that day. And YES when Americans go to space they should be carried there by Americans. We need to bring home our manufacturing as well. Happy Memorial Day weekend - don't forget to thank a vet.

I think it is probably illegal to restrict access to a city or park. You keep referring to it as "the island" but it is a City that receives state and federal funds. South Shore is allowed to be a gated community because it is a subdivision with specific deed restrictions. Not so with a city. Way I see it, only way we could be gated and deny access is if we were annexed by Kemah and then we created a subdivision within Kemah. Just my thoughts.....

Nobody is suggesting to make it a gated community Or deny access to anyone Lets just not advertise or invite any yahoos to our place There is no need to tell others about our fun unless they pay taxes here!!

Some sad news...Rabbit; retired shrimper, designated drinking buddy, and all-around good guy passed away Friday. It will be strange not seeing him around the island, and he will be missed.

Vaya con Dios, my friend.

Folks that want a gated community should move to one. This ain't it and never will be. Moving to this eclectic area then wanting to change it into a gated comm. makes as much sense as moving next to a bar and then bitching about it.

To the anon critizing the EDC - you suck.

So many grieving friends of Rabbit are hurting today. His passing caused me to reflect on so many things. Each moment is precious. Let's try to be comforted knowing he found the Sandbar in heaven and is drinking a Rusty Nail. RIP my friend.

I'll miss you rabbit. Thanks for all the good stories that made my workday more fun. Only in clear lake shores will you find the likes of rabbit. Welcome back CLS. Good riddance NS.
