Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

I hope everyone had the opportunity to spend that beautiful Easter just the way they wanted to. I also hope you managed to avoid getting your first sunburn of the year like someone we all know. This is where I would usually start my thank you list but you know what. The list is too long. It would read too much like a Clear Lake Shores phone book. So, to the waaaay over 200 folks that came out to the Civic Clubs first ever Eggstravaganza, Fish Fry and Crawfish boil, Thank You, thank you, thank you. Just to get things kicked off there were about 450 deviled eggs. I’ll get some photos on here through the week. I hope you got a chance to check out Eggulivers travels to the NASEGG presentations. Follow that up with over 40lbs of fish, all local caught I might add, nearly 300 lbs of crawfish and a hundred plus pounds of extras, not to mention all the sides that you brought and we had an outing. Stale', I really hope you had the opportunity to try the Swedish meatballs you brought. You know Bryan, anything he can outrun goes in the pot. Partner, those meatballs were great!! If you were not able to make if for whatever reason please know it was the kind of outing that we need more of. I think I can say a good time was had by all. I know I had a ball. Except I didn’t get to eat….I’ll work on that next time.
As a side note in the planning stages we omitted beer for a lot of reasons. Well one of your friends and neighbors assumed the burden and bought a keg. He said consider it a donation to the event. I mean really, what are Bryan’s mudbugs without a cold beer to wash ‘em down right? To the neighbor who called the TABC to whine about it and get it taken away you suck. And you’re bad at it. I have to ask why? Are you that mad at me or just your sucky life? You know what? I retract the question, I don’t care that much. To the citizens and officials who stepped up to get it returned within minutes, Thank you from everyone. Officer Nick, sorry you got put in the middle of our Island BS. I hope you at least got lunch out of it. Chief Cook, Thanks for riding herd. We’re working on a Drive-in Movie night. More as it develops.

Hey everybody, help me spread the word, at yesterday’s fish fry we had a tank of propane go amiss. It has a bid square AZTEC sticker on it and I really need that back. It was donated to the club and we need to return it. Drop me a line and I’ll come and get it. Thanks.

From neighbor Steve:

In my opinion, the event yesterday was a huge success because of knowing the Civic Club will not only continue but thrive under your leadership. It is in the air, with the election just around the corner, CLS is starting to feel like it once did. I think it will feel better than ever since we realize what we almost lost. Gone are the sleepless nights and angry feelings induced by NS lead by the 3 stooges.

None of us can take back anything we did since June, but I wish Paul was still our Chief and Tina was still on the force. The problems in the police dept. are now much bigger than before. I am glad Richard is the one working on it. Too bad " " Perkins got involved in all the wrong ways. Imagine how differently things would have been if Richard was involved in the beginning instead of her.

We hope the person will become known who called the TABC.

You didn't eat? Seriously? That is not good unless you are dieting. (How many other dieters went off their diet on Sunday,) If it was due to being too busy, than my friend, you need to delegate more. The best leaders are good managers. They are not the planners and the workers. You will burn out. You are our leader of fun and we want you to do it for a long time. Get more help, for everyone's sake.

Great event. We need to do it more often.

Question - was it just me, or did the beer taste even better after it was returned?

We were in Houston with family for the day and could not attend. Did NS make an appearance Sunday? I know they can come to Switzerland, too. But... How many people will really approach Jean, Larry, Kathy Bernie, Pam, Steve, Arleen, Tami, Jackie, Barbara, John? Sorry I will not mingle with them. I think Larry is dangerous. Maybe I will be in the same room, but mingle? No.

Who were the winners? Can their egg recipes be sold like the soup cook-off?

Having the horseshoe tournament added a lot, too. Hope there can be more of those.

It was not just you, Bryan.

A drive-in movie night? Awesome. Did you ever see the blow up screens used to show movies outdoors? It may be too small for this group. I wondered if Frank thought about the possibility since from his deck there is a slight hill and the movie screen can be closer to the water. He would draw many folks from off the island, and they will be paying for beer and food. Outsiders could bring blankets.

Speaking of outsiders, did you ever think about charging non Civic Club members to attend our events? By outsiders, I don't just mean Lazy Bend folks. There are plenty on the Island that are not members that attend let alone others from the Clear Lake area. By showing a membership card, for example, to the drive-in, free entrance. No card - 5 bucks. The funds would add up quickly. I noticed some non members barely donating for a beer. ($1) at the Saturday event. It might encourage more Islanders to join.

At least we know it is JUST FINE with the TABC to have beer in the future. To say the person that made the call sucked is being kind.

Don't forget about the City Council Meeting tomorrow at 7pm to vote to squander more money on a witch hunt.

33! Thirty-three! XXXIII! But who is counting...

It will be great to see Richard and Al working with Amanda and Carlo. "WORKING WITH" is almost as important as the names. Council has not been able to work together since Arlene made it the 3 blind mice.

I have been waiting for John to come knocking. No sight of him. Has he unoffically stopped his campaigning? He had little chance of winning prior to the arrest perhaps he realize he was dead in the water after it.

Anonymous said...

Do not count John and the other candidates out. If you want Richard, Amanda, and Carlo you need to make sure you vote, and talk them up to your neighbors. Word of mouth campaigning explaining to others why you are voting for a candidate is one of the best forms of support you can give. Be assured that NS isn't going to give up without a fight.

Anonymous said...

I hope many will attend the mtg Tues. and be unscheduled visitors to blast the council. Let's hear from people that have never spoken before.

Arlene, HOW COULD YOU?

Anonymous said...

Is Arline controlled by NS or what? Please someone hid the remote control from NS.

Anonymous said...

As our events grow, charging nonmembers may be a good idea. There would be more involved in the organization, but it would be doable.

Drive-in movies will draw a crowd for sure.

Isn't there a higher pool membership fee for non residents? It would only make sense to me to charge non residents a fee and non members a fee.

Something to think about.

Sunday was great from the Sunrise Service on. Neeltje, you are a blessing and a sweet, kind soul.

What's up with the space ship sightings?

How wonderful to read the blog tonight. Another great read, Allan, and no comments from NS. Should be sweet dreams for one and all. ZZZZzzzzz

See you tonight at the special Council mtg. It will hopefully be the 3 stooges' last attempt at the witch hunt to hurt Paul. Remember all that he has done for this community for 25 yrs. Remember, too, any charges were paid back.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:02 you are too optimistic. The 3 blind mice (steered by NS)still have two more meetings. If we have learned anything since June (Arlene's first mtg.)it is that anything distructive is possible. I wish they would list their contributions to this community that made it better AND REFLECTED WHAT THE MAJORITY of RESIDENTS WANTED.

I remember when this all started and I had no idea who NS was. I know who they are now and I will not forget what they did. Now I know they total less than a dozen. Name another community where less than a dozen people can destroy so much.

I think charging nonresidents and nonmembers for the Jams might raise considerable funds. Even if the fee was only $5.00. Cover charges to hear a band at a bar are way more.

Roselyn said...

I suggest going to a bar to hear a band instead of the middle of a neighborhood. Just a thought.

Tonight Beverly and I will distribute photos of Jackie's mess to council and audience which asks council to spend money with an attorney to enforce the rubbish and various ordinances Jackie is violating, instead of with a CPA about credit card charges when there was no credit card policy. Makes more sense to spend our money improving the future instead of rehashing old issues. Unscheduled speakers are not allowed to speak tonight so we will just be passing out our flyers.

Bernie, I guess bottom line is that there will be bands in the park next to my house and you and your group will not be getting any city jobs or council seats and us two kooks are just going to have to live with it.

Roselyn said...

Oh, and remember about 3 months ago when 50 of us signed a petition for him to move the sinking boat and clean up lot on Aspen? Remember a lot of us got letters from Jack Fryday stating that a vacant lot could not have anything on it and everybody cleaned up their lots? Drive by Jackie's vacant lot on Aspen today. It is WORSE! He has moved onto it additional pilings, additional boat and trailer. Also at his house he dumped a load of dirt a month ago that just sits there. I wouldn't be surprised that he got building permits for both properties so if it goes to court he can say he was making an effort to improve the property. He thinks he is really smart. It seems to be a trait of the NS group.

Anonymous said...

I saw JY Jackie was moving trash from Tindel to Aspen and then adding more crap to Aspen. And Tindel. This is not going to stop until he goes to court.

Roselynn, You are still against the Jams even if the music is quieter? Gees... You might have given JY Jackie an idea. Getting a permit might solve the Aspen situation.Nah, permits cost cash and it is obvious he has NONE. Plus he would appear to be following ordinance. So not him.

Anonymous said...

Roselyn, The majority of the citizens enjoy the Jarboe Jams. We cannot wait for them to start. I think the noise level will be lowered. You lead that charge.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps you can email your documents to Council, Roselyn, in case you might miss someone. Plus it would give them some time to consider it. If I understood you correctly, in that you will be passing out the flyers prior to the mtg. Versus being a scheduled or unscheduled visitor. Or put one at each Council's chair prior to the mtg. (If Pam would have done that it would have saved some time.)

Anonymous said...

Thank you for taking the time to put together the information, Roselyn and Beverly.Sure wish you would consider being scheduled visitors at the next reg. CC mtg. Let's hear what they have to say back to the majority of residents.

Tami and Arlene, imagine if JY Jackie was your neighbor? Please do the RIGHT thing. Show us you can. Please.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Council realize after the budget review funds are limited? What are they thinking? I agree that money is much better spent on enforcing ordinances. Is this the only item being discussed tonight?

Anonymous said...

I can understand Jackie going after Paul. I am NOT saying it is right. It is WAY WRoNG. He made it clear while campaigning he was going after Paul. Let's face it, Jackie is plain pathetic.

Tami, have you learned nothing since June? Was it all worth it to you? Show us tonight that there is some hope that you will do the right thing. Paul paid every cent back. Establish policies instead.Did you not ask for Council to see the actual charge slips for now on? That will solve the credit card thing, in my opinion. You are proving yourself to be a NS puppet if you do this tonight.

Arlene, I could not be more disappointed in anyone than you. You seemed to have a grasp on the budget. Haven't you wasted enough of the city's money already? Listen to reason and not NS. I would have thought you would think for yourself and not be another puppet. When it comes down to it your reputation is on the line tonight. Are you really going to line up with Jackie and Tami? Or will you do the right thing?

Anonymous said...

Arlene, I beg you to talk to Paul prior to tonights mtg. Please do not waste more of the residents money. Have him show you how the money was paid back. Stop listening to Bernie and Jean.

We have emailed the flyer to Karen to distribute by email to the council and Mayor and City Administrator since we can't be unscheduled visits.

If you look on the city's website, calendar, council meeting, agenda packet.........it shows that Arlene, Jackie and Tami all three have called for this special meeting, so don't feel sorry for Arline. She knows exactly what she is doing. She just doesn't realize yet what it is going to cost her in the long run with regards to friends and reputation.

Anonymous said...

I am confused about the chatter of a special CC mtg. tonight. The calendar says EDC. Please clarify. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I do not feel sorry for Arlene. I am trying to appeal to her senses. (I know, I might as well bang my head against a wall instead.) There was one time when she did NOT vote with "___" and Junkyard.

I feel sorry for Karen. Couldn't you have emailed the docs.?

Bryan said...

Even though there is not an agenda item tonight for "Unscheduled Visitors" you can still speak during the debate of the agenda item, but only after each councilmember is allowed to speak and you are call on by the Mayor.

From the Clear Lake Shores Municipal Code:

"Citizens may be allowed to speak during discussion of an agenda item, but only after each councilmember is afforded an opportunity to speak. However, no member of the public shall be heard until recognized by the presiding officer. Any member of the public interrupting city council proceedings, otherwise creating a disturbance, or failing to abide by these rules of procedure in addressing the city council, shall be deemed guilty of disrupting a meeting (V.T.C.A., Penal Code § 42.5, Class B Misdemeanor) and, at the direction of the presiding officer, shall be removed from council chambers by the sergeant-at-arms or other agent designated by city council."

Also of interest:

"Three councilmembers shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at regular meetings. Four councilmembers shall constitute a quorum at special meetings."

Ricard and Al - it would sure be a good night to take in a movie, don't you think?

Now, keep in mind:

"Any member of the city council may "call the question" on the debate of an issue. When the question is called, the mayor shall ensure that all councilmembers have been recognized to speak, then shall immediately end debate and call for the vote on the matter being discussed."

This means that any councilmember can attempt to keep a member of the public from speaking, and I have a feeling a few of them will. It will be interesting to see if Vern allows public input anyway.

My opinion is that calling this Special Meeting is unethical, unless there is some dealine to order this additional investigation that I am not aware of. What is the rush? Could this vote not wait 1 week until the next regularly scheduled Council Meeting? How much extra is it costing us just to advertise and schedule this single line agenda item Special Meeting in the first place?

Was this an attempt by certain members of this Council to slide this vote in under the radar? If so the Blog has put an end to that nonense. What else are certain members of this Council going to try and get done as part of their own personal agenda before the new Council is voted in? I think we should just cancel all remaining meetings until we can get some sane folks back in charge. Enough damage has already been done.

Keep your eyes and ears open as the next month could get interesting.

As far as an additional investigation: what is the point? What is the City going to gain? As I have stated before: there was no Credit Card Policy in place before all this came to light, so no laws were broken. Ethical, unethical, moral, immoral - doesn't matter. THERE WAS NO POLICY IN PLACE. The revealing of the "not so normal" use of the card has already done what we needed it to do - it spurred us on to get a Credit Card Policy in place. It worked. Now we have something to file charges against if it happens again. We are done. Move on and spend that $12,000 on something productive.

Can anon who was freaking out about Allan's cartoon bring the blown up version to the meeting tonight? I want to see who they are.

Anonymous said...

Bryan, you are brilliant. Thanks for the post. Something tells me Al and Richard will do the right thing.

Even though we have been so good during the meetings, (as in well behaved) this may be the one getting thrown out over. That is especially true after " " Perkins speaks. It has taken everything I have not to walk up to her and slap her. Am I am not a violent person. Never hit a woman and I never will. The thought has crossed my mind while she speaks.

Actually, it may apply to Jackie more this time since he is such a repeat violator of ordinances. How dare him.

I wish more people are able to attend tonight. It may be under the radar this time.

Anonymous said...

Vern will allow public input. How can he not? This is costing the citizens more of their money.

Bryan made many good points. You will be such wonderful addition to EDC. Some there do not deserve their seats.

Why didn't I get the white postcard in the mail trashing Paul Shelley?

It said it was paid for by Garst/Toenjes.

So if tonight is about trashing Paul Shelley again, I hope he brings his attorney and Tina. Its time to pull the trigger Paul.

Anonymous said...

Allan, I just checked my mailbox. It looks like it is time for a bonfire. Perhaps a trash pile. NS sure likes to waste their time and energy. At least they are wasting their own money this time. You'd think they would save it to give to the neighbor after the lawsuit.

Anonymous said...

3:41 Yes, Paul should have his attorney there. I would have pulled the trigger a long time ago. Is he filming it. The fools on Council will set themselves up to be in the lawsuit, too. If they have not already.

Not all the postcards should go into the trash / bonfire. Paul needs one.

Anonymous said...

Nope, no postcard can encourage me to view NS website. It will encourage me to go tonight though.
It sounds like another show down.

Anonymous said...

Paul, I do not care if Carlo, Amanda and Richard are the new Council. GO AFTER NS! Hit em hard.

This post card has be infuriated.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the flyer, Roselyn and Beverly. Please present to our new CC as scheduled visitors. Let's see what they can do to improve CLS. This Council just wastes money. I know the audit will be a waste. As someone said the DA has already looked into it. There will NOT be criminal charges.
