IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Jury Duty

Well Jury Duty was fun. I mean it. It was a lot like any neighborhood get together. Almost all familiar faces. Most of them smiling. Then I went next door and did a little early voting. A short hop around the corner to the Fire Station and voila! A Trifecta. I’m all civic now.

My sincere condolences to the Nash and Perkins families. I am sorry for your loss.

Neighbor Curtis is calling for the lost Kitty’s owner. He says he will feel real bad for a very short period of time after he calls Animal Control. Shields ask your neighbor to check out this kitty pic before it’s too late.

End of April

A shout out to all our friends and neighbors who took part in the triathlon in Kemah today. Marcus and Reanna Chernecke and Rick and Jill Mowell that I know of.

For all you early voters out there this is for you.

 5. Early voting in the election by personal appearance shall be for the period permitted by law, which will begin on April 30, 2012 and continue through May 8, 2012. The place at which such early voting shall be conducted is City Hall at 1006 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake Shores, Texas 77565. On the ballot are the names of the seven candidates.
In addition is Proposition 1 that calls for reauthorization of the one-quarter percent sales tax for our city streets.

This is an important issue for the City budget and our residents should be aware of the background prior to being faced with it at the ballot box.
Below is a brief explanation of the language and impact to our City and our residents.

Ballot language and explanation of Proposition 1 which will be found on the current ballot for Clear Lake Shores.

“Proposition 1
The reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Clear Lake Shores, Texas at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.   For or Against”

Voting for this proposition will continue to provide about $180,000 per year in sales tax revenue to the City to help maintain our streets.
It is not a property tax and does not increase or decrease the property tax that our home owners pay – which is currently zero.

Voting against this proposition will discontinue this important revenue stream to the city.
It must be re-enacted every three years to retain the revenue that we are now collecting.
If you would like more information please contact the mayor, any council member or city staff official.
