IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

It's Leap Day!

Voter Registration Drive is ON for Saturday. The Sand Bar parking lot is the place to be between 10 and 3. You can pick up a registration card, a hot dog maybe a soft drink, information and with any luck you’ll have a chance to meet a candidate or two. Don’t forget to ask about the stickers for your buggie. There will be a few extra chairs so if you get a chance to get out of the house for a while come on down and see what’s happening. Sounds like fun.

Neighbor Neeltje had a great idea. How about we ask “Your Artist” to paint up the kids bus stop? You know it would be awesome. I’ll run it by him. What do you think? Maybe then it wouldn’t look quite so much like a doublewide outhouse…

The Civic Club’s next meeting is tomorrow. If you’ve never been there is no better time to start going. If you haven’t been in a while, what the heck are you waiting for? They are sure to hammer out the details on the soup cook-off. It is right around the corner. Your Mom taught you not to be stingy so how about sharing your special recipe with your friends and neighbors? Ready to sign up just don’t know how? I can fix that just let me know and I’ll have someone come and see you. Let’s go!
I see a lot, maybe too many? Of the same old tired statements from anon. There really should be a little more than cut and paste to a thought pattern.

Isn't It Ironic? The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to "please do not feed the animals" because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.

I cannot be there this Saturday as my daughter has a volleyball tournament all day. However, I think it is an awesome idea and I hope the turnout is fantastic.

And I think the Anons should wear paper bags on their heads if they choose to show.

Good luck!

Does the majority party (LOL) have a confirmation from any Candidate that they will show-up for the Debate or to just be seen in the company of the Dark Hole Party?

OK 1005 I will answer your question. This will be easy.

First of all Paul is not an Officer. He is the City Manager which is an appointed paid position.

Secondly no one is overlooking the allagations. Wrongway, Sunshine, The Frog, The Knife, " " Perkins, Junkyard, Stephen Dean and Barbra "Gone with the wind" Nichols have all looked into the allagations and have found Paul did exactly what he said he did. Good job detectives. Now we have asked The firm handleing our audit to look closely at the Credit Cards. If they find something then maybe more investigation is needed. Maybe not. You don't just start throwing more money at something untill it is necessarry. Fortuneately three of our Council members saw we didn't have the money to throw away at this time and voted not to spend 12 to however many thousands at this time. This has been explained numerous times. What don't you simpletons understand? You can't just vote to spend money we don't have and figure out where to get it later as Junkyard would have you do. AAARRRRRRRGGGGGG! What the hell is so confuseing about that.

Why should Paul step down or resign? If a few ass holes at work accused you of something and you feel you didn't do anything wrong, assumeing you even have a job, would you just quit or fight? Do you realize he is under contract? Lastly no one can damage this administrations reputation anymore than they have from day one. They are worthless to our city. Do you go to CC meetings? They have accomplised nothing and have spent at least $75,000 proving Paul did nothing wrong as our Chief. Do you seek information from all sides when you hear a rumor? Do you put any thought into what you are saying? Do you check your facts? If the answer to any of the above is no then you need to get more informed then try again or better yet run for office for NS. The fact you think Paul is in office is proof you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes 943 another ass chewing by Craig. But when someone says really stupid stuff and asks me to respond it is my civic duty to help them.

Great response, Craig. The truth doesn't lie. But seriously, why do you waste your time responding to ANONs? I think a face to face debate would be great, and a lot of fun, but something tells me this one wouldn't show up. So, leave 'em hanging...

Bryan ... you're brilliant !!!

All reasonable people ... stop arguing or even responding to these Knot-Heads ... you are not going to change any minds ... you can cure ugly with plastic surgery, but there in NO cure for Stupid.

I would be willing to go head to head in person with anyone at anytime. Hopefully I could help some of these very confused folks and enlighten them. Hopefully I could also learn from them. If they are anything like the cave pepole that surround me here on Narcissus that will never happen because they can't deal face to face only behind your back or behind an anon button. I know it is hopeless trying to bring some folks back to reality but it helps me vent my frustrations in a forum where everyone can take my BS or leave it as I can theirs. I think its interesting that NS groupies get so upset over what Allan, Roselyn, myself or any of us say on the blog. We are nobodys just watching and responding but it drives them nuts that they are exposed for who they are. It is human nature to attack those you think are a threat to your agenda so I am happy if I am considered a threat by NS. I know I consider them a threat to my community.

Bryan said...

Let Allan set it up. I will participate.

I was speaking with my neighbor Charlie Russel today. He is in the process of answering the questions and has every intention of being there Saturday. He admitts he is friends of the McEntyres but disagrees politically on many issues. You will have a chance to ask him questions Saturday. Kudos to Charlie for standing up and putting himself out there for all of you to question then decide for yourselves

Craig said...

Damn is it just me or are the secret words to post getting harder to read. It takes me two or three tries to get something to stick. Its probably just me.

I wonder how NS broke the news to Barbara that they don't need her to run now.....that they have their two candidates? Maybe they are saving her for Mayor next year.

Dont forget, we need people with work experience and people skills to sign up.

SPorter said...

Bryan ... no, I had a very hard time getting it to stick too ... and then when it finally did "stick" it did so as ANON ... SP

Baaaawwwbraaa isn't going to run? dang it that would have been fun

To the second part of your rant: TCLEOSE has ruled on a number of items Paul Shelley did wrong as Chief. Even the Report suggested fixes. The most current finding by TCLEOSE is that Paul Shelley wrongfully terminated three Officers and they have pending lawsuits not counting the others. Paul Shelley did man-up and was an asset during IKE, but it ends there.

Apparently not everyone agrees with your assessment of Paul's leadership abilities as Chief of Police including The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.

I think some bar associations in a very northern state have investigated one of their own lawyers too.

What's that about glass houses?

Anonymous said...

Ok, what bar has WiFI Anon 8:07? I can't make heads or tails out of your input.

Excellent idea, Neeltje!

Meet the Candidates is scheduled for April 19.

11. Where do you see CLS in 5 years and what roll would you play to get there.

Well to start with I need to be elected to council then I would strive to fairly represent all citizens, and continue to strive to attract commercial businesses in a controlled manner to our commercial district. Since our tax revenue has flat lined I would strive to make the council fiscally responsible in spending projects with input from my constituents.

12. If elected, how would you handle a constituent’s call to complain about a matter?

First I would let him or her tell me his complete problem and complaint then I would research it to find any opposing information then try and make an informed intelligent assessment of the situation and lastly bring all parties together to work out a solution within the framework of council.

13. What issues would you like to see the council address?

We should search for ways to continue the development of the businesses and infrastructure along 2094.
Our sales tax base has flat-lined so we should search for ways to attract businesses and other ways to increase the sales tax base.
Look for ways to facilitate communication within departments to increase personnel productivity.

14. List your top three to five priorities you will champion to move the city forward?

I will work with department heads to increase communication between employees and department heads to facilitate a harmonious work atmosphere.

I will work with the EDC to attract new businesses and continue construction of the town center.

Look for ways to increase our sales tax base.

15. Describe how you would implement your top three priorities.

Work with the department heads and employees to develop employee grievance procedures.

Let the EDC do the job they were created to do but they should always be accountable to council.

Work with EDC to increase sales tax base. After all it was what they were created to do.

16. What would you change about the council?

17. What would you like to stay the same about the council?

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to set on the council and I applaud any citizen for this contribution.

18. What in your view is the relationship between the mayor and city council?

The mayor is the administrative head of city government and oversees the day to day operations, along with the city administrator who is the second in command. He or she is also the presiding officer over the council that meets on a regular basis to pass ordinances and insure that the will of the citizens are met.

19. How do you propose to create a positive working relationship?

I will always be open to opposing views and respect others viewpoints without name calling or personal attacks .If elected I realize that I am there to represent all citizens of our community. I will always be there to listen and be open-minded.

20. Is there anything else you would like our residents to know about your candidacy?

I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I am not affiliated with any group and have been friends with people with opposing views. I am running because I think I can move us past this division that has consumed so much of the talent and energy of this wonderful place we all call home.

charles Russell said...

1. Why are you running for office?

To try and bring together opposing views to reach a compromise for all our citizens and make our council a functioning body again for the good of our community.

2. What city committees have you served on in the past and when?

Due to my being in the long haul trucking industry, until recently I have been unable to serve on any committees. It would have been an injustice to be on any committee without having the time to do a good job for the citizens of the community.

3. Tell us about your education and any degrees.

I graduated from Allen Military Academy in 1963 and attended North Texas State but did not graduate. I graduated from Houston Police Academy in 1972.

4. Do you have any Professional designations?

I have an Advanced TECLOS Law Enforcement certification.

5. What is your work experience?

I worked for Texas Instruments for 4 years as a line supervisor over a production line and joined Houston PD in 72 and served 20 years before retiring during which time I worked in patrol division where I was assigned to Northwest Tactical unit in the late 70’s. I then went to Special Operations where I was involved in dignitary protection and was a Master Diver on Houston PD SAR team. I was desk officer at Neartown community center in the late 80’s and finished my tenure at Clear Lake Police Substation. Since retiring I have been operating C T Trucking a small trucking company operating one truck leased to larger companies operating in all 48 states and Canada.

We could try being more civil to each another. This also includes people who attend.
6. Describe the most important personal characteristics or traits as they relate to the office you seek.

I am an open minded person, who will be open to all suggestions and will work diligently to come to a fair compromise that will benefit all parties involved.

7. Describe one to three accomplishments of which you are most proud.

Became highly proficient SAR Master Diver on HPD dive team in the 70’ and 80’s and set the standards and procedures that dictated underwater black water search and recovery operations.
Attained TECLOSE Advanced Law Enforcement Certification
Raced Motocross and became highly proficient winning and placing in many races in the late 70’s.

8. Describe the duties of the office you seek.

The main duties of a councilman to acquaint himself with ALL the matters attended to by the council and communicate with ALL the citizens in the community so he may fairly represent them and make informed decisions on his vote on council.

9. What are the City’s strengths and weaknesses?

When I first moved to CLS 2094 was just a rural two- lane road and Kemah was just a shrimping town with a few restaurants on the waterfront. A lot has changed in 27 years some of it good and some bad but I think what made CLS special then still holds true today. We are a community of fiercely independent people who don’t want the carnival atmosphere of Kemah or the cookie cutter HOA atmosphere of South Shore. We have gained tax revenue from Target and Home Depot and this should be managed in a responsible manner to maximize what we get for our tax dollar. We should attract businesses to our commercial frontage on 2094. I believe that WE CAN WORK TOGETHER to take our community forward and have the kind of community we can all be proud to live in.
I am not going to comment on any previous council because I want to look to the future and keep what has happened on previous councils in the past.

10. Do you think CLS is a well-run city?

I am not going to comment other than to say this is what prompted me to run and I think we can do better in the future. Our community has been blessed with so many good things we can make it so much better if we can work together toward a common goal.

Open Letter to the citizens of Clear Lake Shores

I am posting this letter to acquaint the voters of my qualifications and my convictions. I moved to our city in 1985 and lived on my boat in Legend Point except for a short time in 1987 when I moved to an apartment in League City. Tina and I purchased our house on Narcissus in 1989 and have resided there since. I retired from the Houston Police Department in 1992 and still hold an advanced law enforcement certification. I have been self-employed in the trucking industry since 1994.
Over the past several years I have witnessed the politics in our city get almost cancerous and the divide between groups of our citizens become almost intolerable degenerating into rancorous name calling and other despicable acts. Let me be clear that I am not a member of any one group and form my own opinions on all information available.
If elected I will represent all the citizens and work tirelessly to reach a compromise between these factions for the betterment of our community

Uh huh. All the married guys nod up and down.

The question still stands - what is her opinion on the Town Center Development?

This is where the pressure mounts Charles, because the last three candidates supported by the McIntyres were all three liars.

I am sure you are a very nice person, but unless you want to be crucified Charles, you better start off telling the truth and shooting straight with the gang on this blog, because it will come back to haunt you if you dont.
