IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Happy Valentine's Day

EDC Meeting tonight at 7. See you there. And speaking of the EDC this from Ronnie via the GCDNews.
at least this time they aren’t laughing at us.

The Legend of St. Valentine (courtesy of the History.com)
The history of Valentine's Day--and the story of its patron saint--is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl--possibly his jailor's daughter--who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and--most importantly--romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps thanks to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France.
Origins of Valentine's Day: A Pagan Festival in February
While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial--which probably occurred around A.D. 270--others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St. Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to "Christianize" the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Celebrated at the ides of February, or February 15, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification. They would then strip the goat's hide into strips, dip them into the sacrificial blood and take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city's bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage.

Man, it is good to see some good news written about us for a change. That is what happens when good people do good things, as opposed to what we have been dealing with for the last 9 months. Thank god we have had Ronnie continue to carry the torch and keep the Town Center dream alive. Hang in there, Ronnie, help is coming.

Thinking about 3 months from now with total excitement. Not only will we NOT have to look at Junk Yard Jackie and " " at Council mtgs., but we will have a new bar/resturant we can walk, bike or golf cart to. The tide is turning for CLS.Sure hope Frank plans on having live music. It doesn't have to be blaringly loud. When will we break ground on the lighting and landscaping? I could not attend the EDC tonight. Will someone fill us in on it?

Hey Craig,

Was it just my hearing (I am 50 now) or did Kathy M. actually ask the EDC to consider using their funds to clean ditches and culverts in the residential areas of the City?

Or was I dreaming that?

Crystal Rose said...

Bryan, how about some volunteers to do this? I'm sure through the blog we could muster some? Allan a call to arms might be needed if it is nobodys call? There must be plenty of able bodied people on the island or maybe if we all just did the one nearest to us? Just a thought......

Kathy said now that there are so many home based businesses the EDC should go through the city and blow out every ditch all at once in case it floods. I guess she means the businesses her puppet Tami is trying to put out of busines. Oh wait! Tami said at a council meeting mine was the only business she was trying to stop because mine is the one she has to deal with, you know the 50 bags of trash every Tuesday and Thursday. I would guess the fact everyone was laughing at her as they tried to explain how far off base she was that this will not happen. I guess if it does every ditch will be cleaned but mine since I am the big problem here on the Island. Folks, this is why you should never miss an EDC or CC meeting. You never know what NS is going to say next. On another note I guess all of that mini mob stuff and the cool knicknames someone recomended went to their heads. Yesterday afternoon I found a rat with its head severed laying by my garage. The head was clearly cut off and no where to be found. The good news is I didn't find the head in by bed last night. Larry, Sunshine, Pam, Steve did any of you see any suspicious activity around my house yesterday afternoon? Kenny help me keep an eye out for a rat killer that is running around the Island

Mr. Shelly,
I am writing to request clarification on the noise ordinance of The City of Clear Lake Shores. My understanding is that the ordinance does not apply to commercial enterprises. Can you please let me know if this is true? If not, I would like to initiate a request for variance. We plan to have live music on the back deck of our new establishment on Thursday through Sunday nights and would like to be able to have the bands play until midnight. I think this will be of great benefit to the city as it will draw locals back from Kemah and give them a great place to enjoy outdoor live music in Clear Lake Shores.
I have spoken to a few city representatives (and a couple of people who intend to run for council and will likely win) and they think it is a great idea and will support it, though after the upcoming election.
Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this matter, and please let me know how to proceed in order to make this vision a reality.
You know how to reach me.
Thank you.

We could sit at the pavillion and drink and listen to music every weekend. Now that's living!

I just called Frank Tamborella and he said this is a lie, he did not write this letter and is pissed that someone would impersonate him.

He asked me to send him this blog post which I am doing now.

He said his place is going to be laid back, no music outside and not sure if he is even going to have live music inside.

Looks like the NS gang is up to their lying tricks again.

Crystal Rose said...

That is unbelievable surely it is possible to find out the source of where that letter came from! I cannot believe that somebody would stoop so low to cause trouble.......What is up with people!

Roselyn said...

Uh Oh is right.....They might have finally stepped on the wrong toes.

Anonymous said...

I'm familiar with this request. It's obviously not from Frank. Read it s l o w l y. It's someone who is intending to have music at their home. That's why they want the variance. There are at least two council candidates who, if they run, will support this resident.
Not everything you disagree with is an NS conspiracy.

Long live the Pink Clown party!

Anonymous said...

Ya'll chill - that was a satirical piece from the CLS Onion

Anonymous said...

Who said it was from frank?

Oh! Roselyn made that $hit up. Who's causing problems with random rumors again? North who?
Rossy, you're just as mch a part of the problem in our community as Bernie is.
I am skeptical of you, your silly "clown" party and whomever you choose to support in the upcoming elections.

Crystal Rose said...

Anon 4:43 - I have re read that letter and it clearly mentions the words ESTABLISHMENT that does not imply a back deck on a house! I suggest you read it again yourself slower than the last time. I am not Pink rather neutral in fact but this was a nasty piece of mischief....

Roselyn said...

Anon, you should call Frank and explain why you use FXXXX TXXXXXXXX to impersonate him. Maybe you can explain it away to him before he supponea's your IP address, you fool.

Anonymous said...

Let's hope he does and the vicious Person is found and exposed to the community, we need to know who these nasty people are!!!

Anonymous said...

Subpoena an IP address? You've been watching too much CSI.
Tell us the story about John Scott again Aunt Rossy!

Roselyn said...

We already know who these nasty people are.

Crystal Rose said...

This is done in the UK, it is easy for the police to trace an ip address to the computer it was sent from. If Frank wants to pursue this as a malicious act to his new establishment I would have thought he could do this here too? Not CSI easy traceable accountability to cyber bullies! It can be done on the blog as well so be careful what you say about anyone on here .....

Anonymous said...

Oh noes!!!! The cyber polices are going to come get us!!! You too are a kook. You also happen to be paranoid.

I betcha not many people here give a shit about how they did it in the UK.
Keep Britian great!

Anonymous said...

Allan, Looks like somebody left the lid off of the bug jar. The anon kooks are back.

Crystal Rose said...

Water of a ducks back anon 6:06 but at least I am not a coward! Britain is Great and so is Clear Lake Shores and I for one intend to keep it that way.

Roselyn said...

BTW Crystal, thanks for the loan of the hand made chili powder. It was delicious. Will return the favor.

Let's remember how packed the Sandbar was on band nights. Let Frank know you would love live music!Sure hope the bar will be big, too.

Anonymous said...

Frank,
I would love live music.
Roselyn only speaks for a very small angry minority.

Anonymous said...

That is no way Frank, he would not post anon.........Bulls**t...

Anonymous said...

ummmmm, 7:33: I think we established long ago that it was a joke. Ya'll need to lighten up a bit, there is much more to this blog than NS v. Pink. Don't read every comment as it were aggressive towards you. Step back a bit. Though I think what we've learned from this episode of Days of Our CLS Lives is that there is a gap for a good live music venue in CLS.

Roselyn said...

I guess they are done with Paul and now after me. What a joke!

I love music, just not loud music. I wish Frank the best of luck and told him I would be a good customer and support him any way I can.

Anon 7:44. Why don't you take your logic and your rational thought and move on down the road. Your kind ain't welcome around these parts.

It takes one sick person to cut the head off of any animal. Sick and sad.
