Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Congrats to the Massey’s! Mark, Wendy I hope you have a hundred years of bliss staring you in the face.

For everyone who missed the Boy Scouts and their flag plan here is the info if you want to get in on it. I personally think it’s pretty cool. Call or email

From the Civic Club, here’s the stats on Saturday’s dinner from Jan Finnerty the Club secretary. If you haven’t joined yet now would be a good time.
We served about 270 dinners today after volunteers spent hours and hours in preparation.
We collected $256.00 in cash for coats, a jacket, hats and gloves for kids at the local school
We  donated the leftover food  to a local recovery center.
We don't know yet if we made any money keeping this tradition alive in our community, but we had a heck of a good time doing it.  Check the next ISLANDER to see all the smiling faces.

WE have some new neighbors I’m trying to run down. Andrea Hanson and Mike Lewis are leasing the house next to Jim and Julie Moncur on Forest. Anybody have an email address? Phone number?
Michelle, about the Big Easy oil-less cooker. I think it is safe to say that two of the best cooks I know will never fry another turkey in oil. Heck I’ll even add myself to that list. Bryan pointed out that in oil any rub or external seasoning falls right off when it’s put in oil. Not so in the oil less. He made mention of the injection seasoning differences too but it was lost on me. What I liked best was you’re not left with 3 gallons of expensive really hot oil to deal with.

AB ... your Blog "Monday the 14th" was 'right on,' my friend. Outstanding. Although I get the First Ammendment arguements to keep 'Anon' alive, and I absolutely respect your right to manage YOUR Blog ... I personally would request you to kill 'Anon' and get rid of the useless Bull it facilitates. Regardless, thank you for your Outstanding Citizenship.

To all who worked on Thanxgiving Dinner ... thanx so much. For those who did not, you missed a wonderful time. Rarely does one get a chance to spend quality time with the Best of Folks. I really enjoyed it. You will have another chance soon ... come on out!!!

Allan,
Great comments on Sunday the 14th -- BUT you undercut your request for no name calling when you refer to "Heckle and Jeckle" rather than calling them by their real names. Name calling can be fun, but doesn't really further the goal of replacing them.

Here here to Mark and Wendy!! What great additions they and the children are to this island. Hope they stay with us for a long time and wishing them many years of happiness

I am glad everyone liked the turkeys, and the whole meal, for that matter. Everyone I talked to seemed to think it was our best year ever. The same crew has been cooking turkeys together for 5 years now for this event and I think we have it down. Jim and Allan - couldn't have done it without you. And Glenn took a much deserved year off (at my suggestion, especially since he cooked 5,123 hot dogs singlehanded for National Night Out Against Crime) but he was certainly there in spirit. And for anyone who didn't enjoy it - see Allan for directions to the nearest Shoney's. We still get to keep your $10 though. Information like that ain't free.

Now, on to OILESS FRYERS since lots of folks have been asking - these things are the best invention since twist off beer bottle caps. Advantages - besides the obvious one of not have to buy 3 gallons of oil and then having to deal with said oil after you are done, they use less propane than traditional frying, they are safer, and any seasoning you rub on the inside and outside of the bird stays on and doesn't burn off in oil. Plus, there is a pan underneath which collects all the drippings which makes killer gravy. Lastly, I would think it is a healthier way of cooking, but who knows? Disadvantages - less manly, but that is about it. So, if you prefer fried turkey over baked I would highly recommend the Big Easy by Charbroil. I'm sure there are others out there, and I am sure they work fine, but that is the one I have and I give it 5 stars. And, keep in mind you can use it for cooking chickens, roasts, and other things I haven't even tried yet.

Exaclty Allan. You need to stop these silly anon posters and only let those of us who think the way we ourselves do post anon. I can barely even make stuff up about the cops and tonights council meeting will surely give me some things to worry about such as how many times Denise (SIC) smiles or chats with whom or if she has a notebook and completes her daily paperwork but I don't care what she's doing I'm going to accuse her of taking names gestapo style and I want to see if anybody stands behind Tami and I also wanted to write down how many times Jackie crosses his arms and post it all on here with my opinions which will certainly qualify it as fact- but, I can't focus on all that with the silliness going on. Can't these people see that we're trying to by childish and ignorant and we can't do it with their childish and ignorant.... wait a minute. Hey... we're all being childish and ignorant. wow.....

Would someone please explain to me how singing Journey songs while riding seabirds is any more irrational than grown people worrying away at what one of our city employees may be talking about with other officers at her place of employment or with whom our former police officers may have slept with, or even where former APPLICANTS hang out on weekends? She was an f'n applicant and you people are worrying about it.
I think that will help us differentiate between the stupid people and the idiots.
Slow down and think about what you're saying. And then, when you figure it out, quit SAYING it and do something about it. You people are ranting about what's wrong, but you aint doin much to make anything right.
And to clear things up. I think Tami is an idiot and is about 75% to blame for the entire issue. The other 25% is NS, but Tami should have been grown-up enough to act on her own. If Tami had an issue or concern she should have acted in goood faith and gone before the council, in a closed session if necessary, and raised her issue. Then, through proper channels, addressed her issues and concerns.
The big secret hillbilly investigation and ensuing turmoil left us all reeling and in a lot of pain looking for someone to fight. Tami aint fightin. Bernie aint fightin. Kathy has always been polite to people on the street. Even paranoid people. Craig, you have to respect her for walking up to you and giving you the opportunity to voice your opinion. If you didn't voice it with her, one of whom you have accused of being a major conspirator, then why are you still here telling us about it? We know all about it. We all agree with you. Tami made a terrible decision and Jackie is a dumbass.
Now - please join me in a rendition of my least favorite Journey song;
Don't stop believing, you can have anything you waaaaant..."""..."""

And remember - when it comes down to it, you aint doing nothing but talking. You're guilty. You put us here. You didn't vote. You didn't think for yourself. You believed Jackie when he was told to see that the city would use immenent domain to take your property. You believed Tami when she said her biggest concern was dredging the boat slips around the island.
You're just talking..... or should I quote your slogan - WRITE WRITE WRITE WRITE WRITE.

Now shut up and let's all show some respect so that maybe Mago will run again. And this time don't screw it up.

Adelia,

If you see a dead bear can you scoop some up and put it in your suitcase? It might spare some local pet come chili cookoff time. You can drop it off in Alans freezer.

On another note at one point at the cc meeting someone was talking about ordinances and Tami said "Oh there are going to be some ordinances passed". I wonder if Jackie will have to abide by the new ordinances. Also, wrongway McIntyre was Mayor and has been at many CC meetings. Why doesn't she ever know which way to face when speaking to council? Was Larry ready to fight Manning last night? That was strange when Larry jumped up and stood in Mannings face as he spoke then sat down when he was finished. What was that all about? At a previous meeting Tami told Susan to "bring it", Mary stood up at the last meeting and squared off against someone with her fists clenched now it appears Larry got in Sanfords face. In all three cases NS was the aggressor but Wrongway calls us bullys. Sorry 655 but I'm not ranting I'm just observing and aking questions. And yes 655, they are still fighting. I doubt that Jean and Jackie were just sipping refreshing watermelon soup at her house yesterday. I am willing to bet there is more bad things to come. What would you like to wager? Poor turn out last night. About 25 people with 5 being the NS gang.

Highlight was council stumbling over the first item. Sowrey was prepared and spoke well that there were inconsistencies in the changes that are proposed, regarding if a council person can contact the city attorney on their own or if they should go through the Mayor or City Adm. first. Tami lied in the beginning and said she didn't care how it was written, then quickly changed her mind as council got confused and were headed toward passing somthing she didnt like. She aaid there might be a time in the future where a council person would need to contact the attorney on their own. Al Burns said "Can you give us an example of when that would be necessary?" She said very loudly "I DONT HAVE TO". Gasps and laughter from audience. Katherine turned around and glared at Roselyn (who wished later she had stuck her tongue out at her....Yes, Roselyn can be childish.) Sanford Manning was acknowledged and stood up. He said he was sick and tired of "those two (pointing finger at Tami and Jackie) and that woman (pointing finger at Katherine) making trouble for our city. He said we are about to lose (or is it loose) our free garbage pickup because of them. Jean's husband, Larry Toenjes, jumped up like he might need to defend himself (??what was that about??), Katherine started speaking and Mr. Shiver told her to "shut up". When Sanford was finished Vern acknowledged Katherine's raised hand. She stood up and faced Sanford, the audience reminded her to face the council. She paused and seemed confused, then told Vern she didnt like being told to shut up and that Vern should not let people be harrassed and should call order.

When council was over Jean Garst introduced herself to Sanford and asked him if she could have a private word with him. I hope they dont think they are going to recruit Sanford to their side.

Roselyn,

Just to set the record straight, when Tami was asked to give an example she said "I could but I'm not going to". I remember it well because when she said it I immediately thought about my kids when they wer 7 or 8 and that is the type of thing they would have said back then when they didn't have an answer or didn't want to answer to something. Yes folks it sounds petty but I don't think Roselyn is complaining. I know i'm not, it is just fun pointing out all of the rediculous things this group says and does. Its like watching the blooper reel at the end of a show. If we can all laugh at Perry and Cains mistakes on a national level what is wrong with having some laughs over our local politicians.

Craig

Anonymous said...

Craig,

"ridiculous" not "rediculous" -- second time you've misspelled it --

"were" not "wer" -- give you that one as a typo

"Cain's" not "Cains"

If we can laugh at Tami's mistakes, why can't we laugh at our own?

I heard the roof of Vern's golfcart was slashed with a knife last night during council meeting. Do we need to ask where the police were?

Anonymous said...

I agree. Good catch 936

Craig

Anonymous said...

'I heard': are you insinuating that the police were at fault or in some way negligent, which allowed Vern's cart to be vandalized? Are they supposed to stand guard over the golf carts during meetings? Should they stand guard on the waterfront each night to keep kayaks from being stolen?

This incident takes our problems to another level, and both 'sides' should speak out against it, but the comment on the PD was completely asinine..
