IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Happy Friday y'all

Any CPA's out there looking for work? A soccer dad I hang with is looking for one. If you're interested let me know and I'll hook you up.

HEADS UP FOLKS ITS PARTY TIME (again)

Tom and Mindy Hord are throwing a party!!

Everyone's Invited!!

There will be a FREE concert Saturday night (September 17) at the Jarboe
Pavilion from 7 - 10 pm.  The entertainment is by musicians from the
Bahamas. There will be 2 kegs of beer and the Margarita machine.

This is from Neighbor Sid..
I would like to find a way to post a big THANK YOU to the  CLS  Civic Club and Helle Brown  for the kind donation to the Technical fund for
TEXAS EQUUSEARCH and organization I am a part of.
Several CLS Civic Club members and friends have made donations as well to help with
the purchase of much needed field computer equipment for search coordination and mapping.
We are trying to raise $1200 for the complete system and are only a few hundred short now thanks to the these donations. Our goal is to wrap up the funds and make a purchase around Oct.1
If anyone wants to add to the fund they can go online to  TEXASEQUUSEARCH.ORG and click on the donate tab. They can donate in Lowells name as well.
Thanks Allan for all your efforts in recent fund raisers. We seem to see the best of CLS because of the
generosity and camaraderie that takes place here everyday.  The island is truly a great place to live.
Let  me know about posting on the ISLANDRUMZ and how I can pass along our thanks.
For Texas Equusearch.
Regards,
If anyone is trying to reach Sid leave a comment here.

Tribes----

I may talk about control freaks, how they behave, and how to choose candidates in the future so there is some learning there too.  You do know that none of us control freaks really think we are controlling or have any addictions or other odd coping mechanisms.  But control can lead to “throw the bums out” thinking which is “anti-balance” thinking.  I don’t want it, deep in my heart, but I secretly pray for more spats of controlling behavior, retaliation, and “if you aren’t for me, you should probably be killed” thinking.  That usually motivates most normal democratic-minded citizens to rid themselves of those who do it.  Council – PLEASE keep it up until the next election, PLEASE.  Help those change leaders keep the focus of the citizens and form parties – Tami and Jackie, you guys have been great.  Jackie, don’t unfold your arms whatever you do.  Tami, swear some more on mike.  Arlene, don’t smile. Whatever you do, don’t be quiet.  Don’t be productive.  Don’t start trying to represent the citizens.  NEVER vote for a budget package which contains both cuts and tax increases.  Keep the approval rating at 12%.   Just like the Arab Dawn, CLS needs the next 8 months to form its parties and organize.  Then it can beat the Caves at their own game just like I hope the Egyptian youth beat the Muslim Brotherhood which is already organized.   And you other guys?  Stir it up; keep it in the air; make it public.  Only one more election and maybe we can get some balance.  At least a start. That is what I am arguing for in CLS.

Me. Anybody but me notice that the investigation in to our fair city has faded to near off the radar screen? Even I have relegated it to the bottom of our blog. I think that needs to change. Not right this very minute but soon my friends. There is no news to report as yet. Last I heard (yesterday) from the City is they are waiting for the final review. I promise to post it here as soon as possible. Then, I will let this entire issue lie idle for a while. If you are just tuning in the issue I speak of is our current misguided City Council and their quest. The way I see it is it consumes too much of our time and energy, right now. There are other things we need to look at and focus on. I swear by all I know to be Holy I will not let our collective memories forget who created this turmoil or when or why. Ever. I will let it simmer though, for a while, and at the onset of next years political season we will revisit past transgressions. This past weekend was an incredible reminder of why we live here. DO NOT lose sight of that. This place IS magic. We have a few knotheads that need to be dealt with and so they shall. All in due time. We have the Civic Club Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas, Hannukah, Mancakes, St. Patty's Day and the Mardi Gras Parade, Spring time and then May when we can kick these butt heads out of office and God willing elect people who care about our city more than themselves or their agendas. Start now. Get to know your neighbors. Who is running? And why? The more we talk to our neighbors and discuss our local politics the better it will be all the way around. I sincerely hope that this blog will prove it's worth in dialog and that through this blog we will never be snuck up on again. I can not prove, or care to, that some of our elected officials keep up with this blog, but I will offer it to anyone that cares to use this electronic forum. It has and will remain largely un edited although I must remind everyone the anon button is in jeopardy again. Too much bullshit. It really is that simple. Please, don't make me turn it off. Are you really afraid of your neighbors? Really? If you have read this blog for any time at all you will know that I disagree with some folks a lot. But there is no one on this Island I'm afraid of. There's just no reason. We can disagree. Hell, I wave at Bernie every time he drives by and he mostly waves back. That is exactly what makes this place so weird. This is who we are. Don't be afraid. Not even you Travis.

From a passenger ship, everyone can see a bearded man on a small island who is shouting and desperately waving his hands.
"Who is it?" a passenger asks the captain.
"I've no idea. Every year when we pass, he goes nuts."

Oh no - do not think we pink flamingo's are not watching or will forget what has been done. The sunsetters and boaters may look like we have resumed our play and are not paying attention but DO NOT let that lull you into a sense of comfort oh council ones!! Enjoy the time you have left - your lies will be examined and the truth will come out this time.

Google Bill Young on Facebook and then click on his photos (the group of 13). There are two of him and Deniese Jansen and she is in plain clothes both times. Lookin' pretty hot! So now we see who introduced Tami's group to Bill Young.

Thanks Deniese Jansen and hopefully the citizens can return the favor sometime.

Thank you Tom Hord for the concert tonight. I can't attend but am grateful for the island. I only met you once but you seem to fit right in here and we are lucky to have you!!

It looks like you devoted at least two hours of your time to The Dead Horse this morning. Maybe you should spend your time doing something productive rather than digging into people's personal lives. I'm a supporter of Paul Shelley, but at the same time I respect that Denise and the other officers are putting themselves on the line for US everyday. You will cry about what picture she shows up in, but you will be the first to call her when you're scared shitless because somebody is creeping around your house.

Get over it and move on. We lost that round. North Shore won it. Focus your busybody energies on the future.
And quit creeping on Facebook. That's weird.

This is in reference to yesterdays posts

Anon @ 3:22 was not Travis it was me. I hit anon but forgot to sign it. I was not able to attend the EDC meeting and I have been out of the loop for the last week or more. In the past two elections alot of misinformation was spread by some of the cave pepole as well as the candidates. Many believed this misinformation and propaganda becaue nobody put out the truth and the facts to counter their attack. Now through the blog we can. Anon 319 tells us the lies and deciet are already out there but we all need to know what they are saying not just that they are saying it. If anyone hears anything that sounds like BS either put it on the blog with the facts if you know the facts or put it on the blog and let everyone know it doesn't sound right so the person who does have the facts can post and get it straight. We need to start making a list of the BS that is being spread and make sure at election time we can present the truth to everyone and stop the rumors in their tracks. The bottom line is just saying there are mistruths being spread is not enough. Everyone needs all of the details.

If I had a heart attack I would not want Bernie working on me.

I have been reading all of this tribe stuff and while it is interesting to think about and there is alot of truth to it, I see a problem with it as well. The balance thing is a great concept but in reality will never come to pass unless it is a coincidence. The cave pepole couldn't care less about balance. They want power, period and they will vote together to keep the power. If all of the other "tribes" each get candidates to balance the power the votes will be watered down and the Cave pepole will win again. In my opinion there are two tribes. The Cave pepole and the rest of us who want positive things for this Island and who would rather help each other than attack each other. Our tribe needs to find three good candidates and vote them in. We have good honest CLS loving folks waiting to take over. Let's not over think this. Find three good folks, elect them, move forward. Done deal.

Craig

I assume that by "three good people" you mean three people that think the same way YOU do?

Balance means that you don't always get what you want, but you don't get shafted either.

Remember the addage about the 3 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. The wolf will call that democracy. The sheep aint gonna be so eager to be involved in the process.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:09 or Travis if that is you,

Be careful you know what happens when you assume. No I do not mean pepole who agree with me. Please do not put words in my mouth. I mean good folks who are intellagent, open minded, considerate, love the Island and will take positive steps in the direction the majority of the Island would like to go no matter what I think. Three of our Council appear to have been on an assigned mission and have brought our government to a halt. Like I have said fron the beginning I am not against the investigation if it was necessarry. I am against how it was handled. Council majority has shown no respect for anyone or proper conduct. I know they are now playing the victim card but that was expected. Granted some over reacted and said things they shouldn't have but the bottom line is they started it. Their group has gone after Paul, Tina, my business, Allan's job, the blog and others. God only knows who they will go after next. I agree in a perfect world balance would be great but until Unicorns are dancing under the rainbows in CLS I would be happy with some good common sense folks that are not on a personal agenda to destroy and possibly get one of their own a job in CLS. If you are going to assume you know what I am thinking, sign your name.

Good comments Craig. We all have to remember this started when Tami (and friends) did their own investigation and wanted to fire the chief based on their results without sharing with us why NOT with them requesting an investigation. I don't care what tribe the new council is from just so they are objective and have the best interest of the island in mind. Just remember some tribes aren't always honest about their objectives.

I heard it was a great party and after party last night. The band got great reviews Thanks again Tom

Roselyn said...

Great party and floor was packed for WMCA! Thanks Tom and Mindy.

Noise is still TOO F'N LOUD for the middle of a residential neighborhood. I was standing next to people and we had to scream to hear each talk. I went home at 9:30 and could still hear it inside my house. Unbelievable, and so far its twice this month and twice last month.........and I hear someone has called this police this morning because my Joe is operating a saw outdoors and there is an ordinance that you cant work and make noise on Sunday. What a joke!

I guess next we will have a roller coaster installed.

Roselyn said...

Sorry about all the typos above Ms. Finicky, I should have reviewed it.

You that are running for office in May need to know and remember that the green team selects its new candidates from people who are mad about something like the use of the park, the farmers market, the town center, Skippers, cops, noise...so if a person is a candidate that has an issue with any of these things, they were probably hand- picked by the green party. I imagine green party tells them they will get them elected and then shows them how to solve their problem.

They of course would not be soliciting me because I have been so vocal about the Paul Shelley incident but I use myself as an example of someone who has a problem and have been unsuccessful for two years to get a remedy about the noise level and frequency of loud noise in the park. In fact I was briefly put on the North Shore email list last year and invited to a demise of the Town Center party because I had emailed all candidates on behalf of the 8 people on my street that were complaining about noise level.

I state again, it is not the party in the park its the LOUD NOISE in the park, and now its the very frequent LOUD NOISE in the park.

So hopefully in May we will have some candidates who are aware that there are many people who have issues with the city invading the private space of some of its citizens and that these candidates will think of ways to solve the problems to EVERYONE's satisfaction.

Any candidate who can help me with this problem will be guaranteed a minimim of 20 votes by me. You can tell by now though that I dont like people who lie.

Anonymous said...

Roselyn.

I think the noise ordinance about no noise on Sundays applies to contractors not residents. I think there is another ordinance that does not allow contractors to work on Holiday weekends at all. "I think" is the key phrase. I could be wrong but that is where the blog comes in. If anyone actually knows what the ordinance is or has time to research it please post and help get the FACTS to us. If we continue to help each other seperate facts from frustrations it will keep rumors from spreading and growing into cave people nonesense. Lets turn this blog into election central and a source to seperate facts from fiction. A sort of CLS wikopedia.

Roselyn, I understand your issues with the noise at the park but if it is that bad why do you attend? You need to step back and really look at what you are saying. You are telling any candidate that can help you with this single issue that you will vote for them and get them 20 more votes. Heck, I bet the cave pepole have someone who will help you if that will get them elected. They hate seeing folks have fun. Are you and your friends willing to sell your votes over one issue that so many Islanders enjoy? How is that different from what we have now ? We have three councilman that appear to be there to resolve one or two issues. I am sure they were told by someone, can you think who that would be, that they could get them elected if they would help with their issue. They got elected, are working on their assigned issues and nothing else is getting accomplished. Personally I don't want anyone in office who has promised anything to anybody other than promise they will look at each issue as it is presented, research the issue, determine how the citizens feel about the issue as a whole and be prepared to vote to do what is best for the Island and the majority of the citizens. If you want to enjoy the freedoms that we have enjoyed for years in CLS, the ones we are quickly looseing, you have to put up with some things you don't like. Give and take, live and let live. Some don't like occasional loud music, some don't like occasional power tools on the weekend. Refer above to "give and take" it is that simple. For those who do not feel that way they have invented home owners associations to make sure no one is happy. The alternative to give and take is to get everyone over to the clubhouse, find out what each citizen doesn't like and eliminate everthing that annoys anyone so everyone is happy. Then we can all go home and watch TV because that will be the only thing left. You couldn't even ride your golf cart to your friends house to watch with them because some here don't like the golf carts running around.

Roselyn I agree with you 90% of the time but on this issue I'm afraid you are at the entrance and close to entering the CAVE. Are you really willing to sell your vote to whoever will resolve this one issue for you? I would like to believe you are not

There are, at times, many things that aggravate us. Barking dogs late at night and early in the morning aggravate me as I am such a light sleeper. But then I remind myself of the big picture. Would I rather live in South Shore Harbour where everything is quiet, all of the time, but I know few, if any of, my neighbors, or would I rather live here, where yes, I live close to some houses that are painted as to be seen from space, and dogs that bark at seemingly nothing at all hours of the night, and golf carts that drive by at 2am with radios blaring, and tribes that don't always get along, but where I know and love most all of my neighbors, would do anything for them, and find a sense of peace that I would never find in a quiet cul-de-sac in some master-planned neighborhood?? I think we all know the answer and I know that's why most of us live here. Let's not let a few hours of inconvenience here and there take away from the overall vacation that we live daily by being fortunate enough to call Clear Lake Shores home. And let's not let a a few individuals on city council take that from us, either. We can lose focus.

Michelle said...

Meant to say, we can NOT lose focus. Sorry for typo.

Roselyn said...

Yes, because it is that annoying to me. I hope you dont think it is just me because it is not. I have only started going the past two times with an attitude, "if you can't lick em them join em", feeling sorry for the old folks that can't leave and go somewhere else, my neighbors with a baby that is disturbed by the loud noise, my neighbor down the street that has to get up at 4 AM on Sunday to go to work......I am just the loudest complainer. I doubt that council checks into it, but I have been told there are MANY calls to the police when the noise is too loud. I quit calling the police because it does no good and you only get the Kemah dispatcher on Sat. nigth who has already been alerted by the City that it is going to be loud music from 7 to 10. All I am saying is that I have now been twice, stand shoulder to shoulder to someone and we scream at each other to have a conversation. You dont even have to scream inside a bar so why is it appropriate outside? I go to bars regularly and hear music, I am not against music or drinking. All I am saying is that the people who organize it dont get it that it is JUST TOO LOUD inside my house. I dont care about the parties or the traffic, its just TOO LOUD. Can't the citizens enjoy it just as much if its just not SO LOUD? I have been living in this house for 11 years and it only became a problem 2 years ago with the "concert series" and now it is music inside my house twice a month on a Saturday night whether I want it or not. Its not a matter of "give and take", its too much and its inconsiderate of the people that live next to it that have it shoved down their throat. This minute at Jackie's Brickhouse is David Schwope playing on the patio and it is nice and pleasant and no neighbors are being disturbed. So yes, I will sell my vote to anyone with a solution for having the parties but making the music not so loud. This is not rocket science, and yes, I will sell my vote to the person who can solve the problem.

Michelle,

Freudian slip? We CAN loose focus and have in the past but we can't afford to anymore. We all need to stay focused and get this back to a "Slice of Paradise" instead of "Our Pile of Mud" Who came up with Pile of Mud anyway?

Live and Let Live,

Craig

Anonymous said...

WOW,

Well there's the key to the door for the next Cave puppet. No matter what else is on your agenda you will get 21 votes just for turning down the volume on 6 or 7 3 hour parties. Like I said I understand your complaint but we all have to put up with something that we don't like to keep us what we are (were). I hope most of you stay focused on the big picture. Michelle has the right attitude.

Michelle said...

So if loud music bothers you twice a month and I have to deal with loud, barking dogs waking myself and my young child up every night and/ or morning, and yes, I too, have to get up early to work, what would you suggest? I am a peacemaker, not a peace breaker, and I have learned that everything in life is not going to go according to my desires, So be it. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I choose my battles, Overall, I consider myself very, very lucky to have my health and my family. If a loud dog wakes me up often (which, I might add, is a lot more often that twice a month) than so be it, at least in every otter way, my neighbors are kind and considerate and good friends. No one is purposefully trying to be noisy and make you mad, as I have to realize at even though incessantly barking dogs keep me and my family from sleeping, I know that they're not doing it on purpose. Dogs provide unconditional love to so many, so far be it from me to tell others to shut them up. And the once or twice a month live music provides a lot of residents an opportunity to visit and bond, really, is that such a big deal?? And yes, I can hear it from my house, too, and I have a small child and I have to rise early and I am a light sleeper. It's not the problem itself, it's the way you react or deal with it that speaks to the character you are, not that I'm suggesting you roll over and take what comes, but look at the bigger picture and what really matters. Jammin 'on Jarboe and the live music that plays occasionally for a few hours at a time that BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER is really not such a terrible thing. Just as dogs that annoyingly bark incessantly, while they may not be mine (so I personally have no bond with them), I know that they bring great joy to their owners, so I am willing to be less self-centered and think of their benefit instead of my own inconvenience. I just don't want us to all start letting our own personal agendas get in the way of keeping us together as a community. Strong communities work together, not against each other, and I think most of us following this blog just want things to get back to a positive way of thinking, even of there are particular matters with which we might not agree.

Michelle said...

So sorry for the typos. Geez. iPad auto correct. Sorry!!

Roselyn said...

That is exactly my point Craig, stay focused on the big picture....North Shore plans all year long who their next candidates are, and they select malcontents like me, Tami and Jacki. People being inconvenienced by the park (I understand Tami was upset about park changes), the farmers market (Skippers problem), town center (Jackie), a variety of things........A good elected official would consider all these things that upset all people and see if there are solutions to any of them so that people can happily co exist again.

....I think the solution to my problem is very simple, just turn the volume down and leave it down, and realize its not just me unhappy about it.

Michelle said...

I have said more than I usually do. I don't mean to offend anyone, including Roselyn. I just don't want us to to be driven to elect others based on what I believe to be petty issues in the long run. I really do know what it feels like to be kept awake by noise and be annoyed by it, but I also know what it feels like to live in a place where everyone is out for themselves, and I don't want to live in a place like that. Do you? I apologize if anyone has taken offense to my words..but I just hope to convey the feeling that I think most of us just want peace, but that means we have to give a little if we want to take a little. Right? That doesn't mean we have to take a lot, like our council has done to us this year. That's above and beyond what I think anyone was hoping for, except for the bug jar group. But like Craig said, it is way too easy to lose focus and concentrate on one issue that only affects a few, but most people could care less about, so let's focus on what the majority cares about, which is clearly NOT what council has done. What is it that most of you care about, anyway? The once or twice a month 3-4 hrs of noise at Jarboe? The parks? The EDC? The way we spend our tax dollars? The way the police dept operates? The way we develop (or not) the Town Center? The many small businesses that call CLS home? Let's get to the root of the problem and FOCUS on that before May comes along.

Roselyn said...

Thank you Michelle, well spoken. I am not offended. Maybe some night we can swap houses and my Bullet dog can wake up your neighbors and you can see my solar screens wave to you to the beat of the bass guitar. It would be a learning experience for us both! Ha!

Michelle said...

Yes, that might be kind of fun and annoying at the same time! Does that mean you'll take my child? Ha ha! And yes I LOVE dogs. And I love live music, but of course neither of which I love when I want to sleep. So I promise, I do get it. I just don't want someone elected based on one single issue. I am so afraid that we will elect the wrong people again (although, for the record, I did not vote for Sowry or Perkins)! And Roselyn, I would love to take a ride in your pink Cadillac with some pink flamingos to keep us company, maybe during the next election?

Michelle,

My neighbor called me not long ago during the day (he sometimes works nights) to tell me my dogs were barking and making too much noise. I went home with the thought of how noisy can they be and discovered that my dog Jack can sound like someone is slowly cutting his legs off if I leave him too long. I was sorry I bothered my neighbor and glad he let me know so I was aware and could do something about the problem. Have you tactfully told your neighbor. They might be willing to get a bark collar (especially if you offer to pay for it) Just a thought. All - maybe we could consider a lowering of the music volume at the park. Not so much that we can't hear or enjoy but enough to not drive others batty or worse to the north shore for relief.

Rnosely said...

Adelia, a tear came to my eye when I read your message. Thanks for caring.
