IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Happy Birthday

-----FLASH---RACING DUCKS TO BE SOLD AT POOL TONIGHT AT 7----
To-------wait for it----------wait for it----------that’s your geek alert going off----------
Star Trek! It previewed in 1966 on NBC. This is me getting goose bumps.
111 years ago Galveston got nailed by the 1900 storm. With the memory of Ike still fresh can you imaging 6,000 deaths? OK, now we have Nate. Maybe we can get lucky. As of 8 AM the 6 computer models show 3 going to LA, 2 to Mexico and one stops in the middle of the gulf. And Maria is staying low. Heads up Fl.
This interesting note from neighbor Craig. He is in the cross hairs of one of our council members. I had considered a little editing but decided against it. Read it carefully. Then read it again. This ain’t over.

“Where do I start?  Well, at 6:00 pm I received a call from one of the Travis’s.  Travis told me he knew how I could solve my home based business problem and went on to tell me just what to do and say at the meeting.  I will not go into details right now but I quickly realized puppet strings were being attached to my wrists.  I managed to cut myself free but we continued to talk.  Travis claims he used to live in CLS at the far end of Pine.  He had hoped to move back here and retire but all of this turmoil started about the time he started looking so he started researching the issues and found some disturbing information that he shared with me.  There was a lot of information but I will try to trim it down and still get the meat of the issues to you.  Travis tells me that the EDC and the Park Plaza Corp. are involved in a conspiracy to take our homes.  He tells me that if we do not wake up and pay attention we all may lose our houses within five years and folks like Tami, Kathy, Bernie and so on are our only hope if we are to save our homes.  .  How will we lose them you may ask?  That is what I asked also.    Travis tells me and I hope I am getting this right, please chime in if I am wrong Travis, he tells me that the EDC and The Park Plaza Corp first tried to take all of the homes on Tindal through Public condemnation.  Where have we heard that before?  Anybody remember?  The next step is for them to annex and take all of the homes in Lazy Bend the same way because they are not on stilts.  At this point we would be surrounded and because of some alleged zoning ordinances that were put in place in our City, these two entities could then easily take the rest of our homes through public condemnation and build a casino on the Island.  Travis tells me the gambling boat would be docked in the Lazy Bend canals and the homes would be torn down.  Travis didn’t mention if we would be offered jobs at the casino or be able to live there but if we can I call dibs on driving the boat and the penthouse.   The conversation lasted for 45 minutes and I finally told Travis I had to go because the sideshow at City Hall was about to begin and I needed to get there to see if I would be able to go to work today.
The Meeting?  Well the meeting started out slow and boring but excitement was in the air as the Council folks were asked if they had anything.  Of course everyone thought Jackie, Arlene and Tami would chime in with their typical “I have nothing” but a hush fell over the crowd as Tami announced I have something.  She then presented a framed degree to all who doubted she actually had one.  No mention of what the degree was in, what her grades were or if she ever put it to use.  There were muffled laughs throughout the room that only got louder when Vern ask Tami if she had anything that actually had to do with City Business and she said “no”.  After some boring check related business and a slip transfer the moment of truth was here.  Would I have a job today or not?  The first thing that jumped out at me was that the ones who complained, Jean, Steve, Pam and Dava were nowhere to be found.  If you know them that will not surprise you as most of them do their dirty work under the table.  Paul and Jack started the discussion.  Jack seemed to attempt to justify his letter to me while ignoring all of the other businesses on the Island including Steve and Pam’s home based business but Paul suggested that the whole mess be turned over to P&Z for their review.  Tami jumped in and told the crowd that I put 40 to 50 bags of lawn debris at the curb every Tuesday and Thursday which is total nonsense.  All of my yard debris is taken straight from the job site to the mulch yard and I don’t use bags.  There has never been even one baggie of business related lawn debris put in front of my home ever. Pre Ike for 15 years or more I did have over 160 ft of Hibiscus that we trimmed to fence height three times a year and that was put in front of our home creating huge piles of sticks tied together but they died off over three years ago.  Tami then went on to tell everyone that my employee’s trucks are parked up and down the street and in all of the neighbors yards every day.  I wish I did have that many employees but the truth is other than Ryan now at UT and Cameron I only have one part time helper who has to be dropped off at my house by his mom to ride with me or take the golf cart on the days he works because he can’t afford a car.   Anyway there were about 5 or 6 folks from my street that can’t figure out what she was talking about.  After the meeting I got at least 11 calls from folks who drive Narcissus everyday and told me they have never seen trucks or massive bags of trash near our house and expressed sympathy that I was having to put up with this crud.  The most dramatic part though was when Tami’s angry ranting face suddenly turned peaceful and her voice softened as she told the crowd that we all needed to use common sense and realize a business like mine with stuff strewn everywhere, 100 bags of trash put out every week and trucks parked up and down the street and in everyone’s yards everyday is bad, and would be if it were true, but gave an example of a business that has little girls walking up the drive to take piano lessons as acceptable.  I’m still trying to figure out who she was referring to that gives piano lessons.  Gee, can anyone help me figure that one out?
Folks, between one of the Travis’s and Tami’s outright, in my opinion, delusions last night I am more convinced than ever and it is my opinion that we are dealing total nut jobs.  I am very disappointed that only few are showing up to keep an eye on these folks and witness this insane behavior.  Shame on you.  I understand everyone is busy but there were only a handful of folks at the meeting.  That ain’t gonna cut it folks.  Thankfully most everyone there, with the exception of Tami’s four or five regular supporters, were bug jar watchers faithfully doing their duty.  Get off of your asses and get to the meetings.  Oh no! did I just make you mad?  Good, come take it out on me at the next Council meeting.  Keep involved or get what your handed from this group of crazies.
Craig
Watch this blog for this number à247ß What is it you ask? It is the number of days we have to put up with this crap until the next election. There are three seats looking for new butts and until any of the three care to explain to me how not paying your fair share of taxes is OK all three have to go. Period. In the past this is where Bernie would chime in with “ he’s a little behind” and “I hope you never experience.. blah, blah, blah” and for anyone to stand up and say  It’s none of the City’s business is just the most retarded fucking thing I’ve heard all year. 3 seats. Period.

Tribes-5 HE’S BACK!!!!! I got more in the mail so here you are.
If all of you who have been here awhile look back, you should realize that the Cave people have been in charge more than not - Gutherie, McIntyre, slowing up Town Center, now this Council.  Now, we have a “Cave/Off Island-Tindell/Who Knows What” alliance that is doing several agendas – Cave, Tindell, just plain retaliation.  Some of you may call it the North Shore agenda – but that is probably just control.  But, guess what, they are the winners over time!  And they are no dummies – they held mayor for a long time.  When Council took mayoral powers away to tone down the agenda and gave them to Council, what did they do?  They took over Council.  Face it - one tribe is prevailing.  The important issue to understand is that it is one tribe controlling six.  One more time: one tribe controlling six! The Sundowners have spent way too much time swimming, drinking, building squirt guns, souping up their carts, and plain old drinking.  I resent that; you should have been running the darn place and balancing the Cave people and Romeos.  The Romeos just got tired and old, I guess.  I do know their major disciple gave up the fight and took off.  I DON’T resent that.  And, the silent people?  They were silent.  Did nothing, ran for nothing.  Can’t blame them – they work and pay taxes.  Build businesses and wealth.  But, where is the balance?  There isn’t any.  The Caves were sneaky, persistent, subsumed some unlikely allies, understood the system, and took on new veneers.  Who cares; the other power tribes didn’t step in and they are prevailing.  Looks like Cave people 3, Romeros 1, and Sundowners 0.  We have had the battle of the control freaks back and forth, got a lot of things done, but the old folks got their way a little more and more often. “

Wow ... Craig's account of his dicussion w/ 'Travis' caused me a significant bout of deja' vue. Just before the last election (concerning all the improvements, loans, etc.), a guy showed up on my lawn asking to talk with me. I noted that the Ex-Mayor-ess was driving him around on Her golfcart, and that she actually was POINTING people out to talk too. I assume that she pointed me out because I was not a visible or vocal proponent of either side. "Travis'" speel was very similiar to Craig's description of 'Travis' " advice to him ... how the folks wanting to improve the Island were actually trying to steal our houses, etc. And that Vern and P. Shelly were forcing folks in the City Council meetings to shut up &/or throwing those who did not support thier "plot" out of the City Council meetings. And much more ... The accusasions were so outlandish, it was all I could do to remain polite while telling him I did not want to hear anymore, and to please get off my property. He left yelling that I was not smart enough to see the evil City Officer's plots to ruin my life. Her Ex-Honor picked him up immediately to find their next victim.

These folks are worse than Rush Limbaugh, but more dangerous ... and need to removed from office ... Intelligent Silent Majority, we must continue to Roar our Disapproval of these people and their tactics.

Facts

1. The City, EDC or Park Plaza have never tried to condemn or take any property on Tindel or Aspen and as no powers to do so. The zoning of the Town Center specifically excluded Tindel and the portion of Aspen that is residential from being included within the Town Center Commercial area

2. The City is a general law city and as such as no powers to annex unless a property owner requests such action, so how could they annex Lazy Bend.

3. The EDC and Park Plaza have no power to annex or condemn or powers of eminent domain.

4. The City passed an ordinance several years ago prohibiting its use of eminent domain

5. The City has condemned property that is damaged and not maintained. But the legal standards for doing so are very high.

6. No property owner is required to raise their house unless it is over 50% damaged and is being rebuilt. Then they have to raise the house to at least the flood plain level. FEMA requires this and if the city does not enforce the FEMA regulations, FEMA can refuse to provide flood insurance to EVERYONE in the city

thank you anon 1:06.... I hope everyone can see how the bug jar gang says anything it takes to get what they want. They are liars and kooks

Anonymous said...

And, I hate tom say it-- STUPID and uninformed

Anonymous said...

Well, I agree they are liars, nutty fruitcakes and sometimes they are uniformed - BUT, they ARE NOT stupid and they do know how to manipulate folks to get what they want. How do you think they got where they are? Beware and be on guard and VOTE!!! Bettie

Great Point, Bettie ... it was at least some of us Exceptionally Enlightened Ones who fell for the patter or lies ... and voted them in.

I can assure you the bugs are already laying awake at night planning the May election, so the pink party should get started as well. You guys should get together and pick three candidates that we can start endorsing now. Probably whoever is writing the tribal balance article could help with the selection of who is in which tribe for balance. The names I have heard of people interested in running or a friend wants them to run is: Carlo Ianni, Bryan Hoerner, Scott McDonald, Jeff Terrell, Copper Derry, Allan Batchelor, Jim Mago, Patrick Michaelski, Allen Cruthirds. I hope Scherer will throw his name in. Who else? Anyway, we cant have 10, we need the group to decide on 3. Who will step forward and organize a committee to select for us pinks?

Roselyn said...

I want to make one more comment...I was picked out before the last election by Jackie because he knew of my problem with noise in Jarboe. He also told me that the Town Center was going to build an amphitheatre across the water for bands. Loud noise still travels across water and an amphitheatre can accomodate bigger, louder music. I simply could not believe our city would do this, so I emailed Ronnie Richards and Susan Landwer. They said it wasn't true. I went to city hall for a permit and posted in the hall was the architectural rendering for Town Center and there was the amphitheatre, clear as day! So I didn't know who was lying but since I saw it on the rendering I voted for Jackie..... I brokered the deal between Joe Doke and City for the purchase of Jarboe Park. I relayed to the Dokes that the plan was for a 'nature park'. Vanesse worked her butt off for that purpose and then all the sudden it was a pool and pavillion for bands. So historically things can be presented one way in the city and then turn out to be something else, regardless who is delivering the information. The bugs know every issue that upsets people and they will be baiting us all with those in the next few months through their puppet council, so lets pick our 3 now who we can trust and will do what they say.

Craig,
I hope you asked all of your neighbors (that called to express their concern) to attend the next CC. Perhaps they can be unscheduled visitors to ask Tami why they drive your street daily, yet, have never seen the trash or trucks that she described unrelentlessly. Perhaps their influence will help to get those that tend to be uninvolved INVOLVED. Imagine what we could accomplish if we could get the avoiders and the uninvolved to attend the mtgs.

Allen C for council! He is an intelligent, honest, trustworthy person. And most of all - he listens and is fair minded! How can I help? Bettie

and..Patrick Michealski would be excellent for council as well. He is a fine gentlemen, with good business sense, fair and honest. Bettie

Heck, I voted for Tami and look where that got me. I should be tied to a tree at LB Park and shot with both East and West water guns

how many votes did tami jackie and arlene get not as a total but individually

Anonymous said...

...obviously they got "enough"..ugh

Larry said...

To those of you that were not at the CC meeting and that is most of you reading this blog. Richard explained his reasoning for his vote concerning elected officials and back taxes. He said the city attorney thought such an ordinance would prove to be illegal. Since the vote he has talk to someone in Austin that confirmed this belief. Just wanted to put that out there for those of you that didn't have the opportunity/desire to attend the meeting.

"I'm not from Decatur but I still like Craig". Very few know where that quote comes from.

Anonymous said...

Larry, where were you 48 hours from right now 23 years ago? For that matter where was Rob? I'll give you two hints. Allan was there wearing inappropriate Texas flag short shorts and some idiot was trying to ski in his tux.

Craig

Larry,

One more clue. Shake Russel probably never agreed to another gig anywhere near CLS.

Anonymous said...

I will go door to door to keep Pat out of Council.

Anonymous said...

Larry one more clue.

A 300 pound man fell from the sky into an eight person jacuzzi filled with thirteen folks

You should still be wondering where Raynel was while you were sking.

Sept. 11th coming soon. Anyone scared? We will be sad for what happened and will honor those true heros of that day but we will NOT be afraid. The "terrorists" do not win!! I plan to fly on the 12th. I would go on the 11th but I have a benifit to do. Good always in the end triumphs over evil.

Anonymous said...

I hope that will hold true for our Island in the next election

Anonymous said...

9/8 5:34 Again, we ask. Who is Pat?

Anonymous said...

See Annon 3:46 for Pat. Very bad choice for Council. Not one to compromise much. Prefers to sue everyone and use the Galv. Daily News to communicate. Sued the city.

Anonymous said...

Oh my - I did not know this. agree then.

Anonymous said...

good morning. What did P. M. sue the city for? I had no idea. Bettie

Roselyn said...

Don't take the bait Bettie. Lynda and Patrick have never sued the city, Lynda just filed against Bernie. Looks like one of the Travis' is posting again, now under anonymous.

We need to organize a Pink Party Primary. I sat in on the bug's planning party 20 years ago so I know some of the tools they have for winning elections.

Anonymous said...

Roselyn, fear not-I did not takethe bait. note that I have asked "what did PM sue the city for?" I see there is no response. I did communicate with the Michaelskis and of course they sued Bernie.I would too. But, perhaps he considers himself "the city". Patrick is a fine man and honest as they come. He would be a wonderful councilman. Bettie

Anonymous said...

Everyone better think twice about the Pat. Looks who runs that household! Do you really want that on your CC??

Anonymous said...

Roselyn the bug jars main campaing tool is to lie their asses off and use scare tactics to get votes from those who do not research the facts. The Pink Flamingo Party should not stoop to their level no matter what. They are also just plain ol mean and nasty. Look what they did to paul and tina, then what they tried to do to allen, now they are going after craig. They try to harm anyone in their path that speaks against them. They are sick and they don't even see how low and evil they are. They seem to think this is how you treat others. The Pinks have to take the high ground and bring some sanity and pride back to this Island

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:08 is not Bernie/Travis nor Bug Jar. They sued over the apartment under their house below flood grade. Settled out of court and they agreed to not rent/advertise it again. That is not the point - he is just not what is needed in the Council. Thinks of self before city. Not such nice people.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't jean garst have an illegal rental apt over on S Shore. How does she get by with it. someone told me she made some kind of agreement along time ago with the city but I hear there is nothing on record. was it a bug deal

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:07 - I agree and I am not bug jar either. Their interest is self and $$'s and at other's expense.

Silent People and sorry about it said...

Maybe instead of Anonymous we can use tribe names

Roselyn said...

Hard to believe anybody on this thread that has not signed their name.

What's everybody scared of? Just tell the truth and sign your name, no big deal.

Roselyn said...

And anyone who is controversial or has a grudge to settle right now with anybody about anything should not even consider running this time. So before you go bashing Patrick, I have not even heard him say he is willing to run this time. I mentioned his name because he ran last time.

This blog is a great place to announce your interest in beng a candidate so we can start to see who is willing to do the work.

Anonymous said...

OK. I have never sued anyone or been sued. I believe it is a remedy of last resort. It is my understanding that PM tried many, many times to talk to, reason with, and be a gentelmen to the people who harrassed him and caused property damage to his home and garden(s). This appears to be well-documented. If someone (above postings) is in disagreement with what I believe to be true - then state your position and sign your name. I have always tried to be "Switzerland" and get along with everyone. But, fair is fair and lies are lies and sometimes you just have to stand up. Bette

Anonymous said...

I agree with Roselyn. We don't need hot heads with personal vendettas or are controversial on Council from either side of the fence. That is what we have now and it isn't going all that well. We need folks who will behave in a professional manor, listen to everyone like Tami promised to do and someone who will try to make a positive step forward everytime they sit down in that council seat to make this Island the slice of paradise it can be. We have wasted months and months of time that could have been spent making progress and having fun but we have taken huge steps backwards and relationships have been damaged not because of Tamis investigation but because of how she and her gang went about handleing the investigaton. Kathy and Bernie knew more about what was going on than some on council and a hell of alot more than the rest of us citizens. How can that be. If Tami claims she couldn't speak about the details as they were confidential then how did the McIntyers apparantly have access to everyting? No matter what direction you view this mess from it was handled inappropriately. We need leaders that are honest, informed, prepared when they sit down every other Tuesday, are willing to listen to everyone they represent even if they don't agree with them, answer questions without playing the victim, and deal with issues above board and not at somebodys house. I'm not sure yet who else fits that bill but in my opinion Carlo will be my first choice if he agrees to take the challange.

Craig

PM also sued John & Peggy Wright that lives behind them and the Wright's builder which happened to be the Dietz family who also live on the island. Pat is qualified due to his professional background but too controversial.

Roselyn said...

When we have a list of folks willing to run, I would like to have each of them answer a list of questions so that when they are endorsed by our pink party group, everyone else will know they passed the test. Like Richard Sowrey said Tuesday, its illegal to pass a law that says somebody cannot serve if they have not paid their taxes, but its not illegal for our party group to ask the question of the candidates. Some questions I would like to ask and have candidates answer them in writing are:
1. Are your taxes current?
2. What is your credit score?
3. What is your arrest record?
4. Do you have a job or when was your last job? Under what circumstances did you leave your last job?
5. Did you interact well with or manage people on your job?
6. Do you understand budgets? Do you know the difference between a debit and a credit? Do you know how to reconcile a bank statement?
7. Do you know ten people who would say you are a truthful person?
8. Do you have the time to devote to attend council meetings and be prepared when attending?
9. Do you have a grudge against anyone or group living in Clear Lake Shores? Who and why?
10. Any issue that would possibly disqualify you from being fair to everyone who lives here?
11. Are you currently in violation of any city ordinance?

What else??????????? I guess because I am a Silent Tribe Member for many years now, I dont even know these folks we are nominating and feel a need know to know more about the people who will be making decisions for me. Tami, Jackie and Arlene are an absolute joke now that I see them in action, although they did well at Meet the Candidates Night.

#9 may be a deal breaker for all.

Anonymous said...

yea 9's a tough one and so is 2 in this economy but I like the idea of coming up with a list of good questions and criteria. lets all keep working on that.

Anonymous said...

All comments and opinions would be taken seriously if everyone would just "man/woman-up" and sign their names. Put your name up ..or just "shut up" - what are you afraid of? Just tell the truth and be firm but kind. Bette

Roselyn said...

#9 would disqualify me for sure. If all candidates have a grudge against North Shore Annex, then so be it, at least the truth is known and all candidates would be equal on this question.

#2 and #3 are asked these days even if you rent an apartment, and just like #9, if everybody has bad credit then they are all equal.

Maybe some type of point system for each answer and then the one with the top three scores are our candidates.

Joe and I are renting a 2 bedroom house tomorrow to a couple and 3 children who put all their belongings in storage in Michigan and have moved to Texas to get a job. They are staying with a couple with 6 children in Bacliff and everybody has to move. They lost their business and have bad credit due to the economy but they seem to be good people and parents who need a hand up so we are taking a chance on them. They were upfront and honest so we went by our gut. Would be same thing with the political point system. You dont have to pass all of them, but the honesty and integrity would prevail.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the bug jar has a list of questions already in the works. If so they might be similar to the list below.

1. Can you walk up the stairs at the club house and find your chair?
2. Can you find Kathy's house?
3. Will you do as you are told by those in command of the bug jar?
4. Are you willing to forget any morals or ethics you have learned in your life?
5. If you are elected are you willing to use your seat on council to attack citizens that do not agree with you?
6. Are you willing to devote all of your alliance to the bug jar?
7. While campaigning will you be able to keep a straight fach while spreading scarey tales that are based on fantasy not facts.
8. Do you promise to listen to your fellow citizens, respect their opinions and handle all city business in a straight forward, profesional, legal and respectful fashion.
9. Do you promise never to reveal who any of the Travis's are?

I assume they would require all of these questions to be answered yes except number 8 which is a trick question and a deal breaker to be one of their candidates if answered yes.

Roselyn,

Your gut and your heart will rarely let you down and even if it does you will have still made the right choice 90% of the time. Try and get these new folks to the benifit. It will give them a chance to become instant Islanders and meet a ton of good folks. They will also see the good in us before they inevitably see the bad we are suffering through. Sounds like they need a break from the stress. Introduce me if they are there.

You want to know how to pick a good candidate? Get out and get involved. Meet people from all tribes at the various events for Civic Club, Chili Cookoff, City Council Meetings, EDC events, Sunset, the City Pool, and Benefits. Get to know every one who lives on the island and then when they run you will know who will listen to all sides and make intellegent decisions based on what is best for the island. We should never rely on last minute nonsense handed out from door to door to allow us to make decisions about our city officials.
