IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

yes it is......

This is to the newbie who posted last week and all newcomers on our little pile of mud. First,  Welcome.  Next, asking about the different sides doesn’t buy you much. You will find it really depends on who you ask so Please I’m begging you, don’t give much thought to the current fiasco we are wading through. Don’t hesitate to offer your hand to any of your new neighbors. They may turn out to be lifelong friends. Meet as many of your neighbors as you can and your lifes differences will sort themselves out in due time. Ask a lot of questions and make up your mind. It’s like wearing shoes that are a size too small. We’ll kick ‘em off in 10 months if not sooner.

Let’s talk about fun stuff! Civic Club meeting is Thursday. Newbies out there, this is the best place to start meeting your neighbors and find out what’s coming up. There will be a potluck dinner at 6:30 and the meeting starts real close to 7. It’s at the Club house which is the big old wood bldg up front.

More fun stuff is Jammin’ on Jarboe. It’s this Saturday. Newbies DO NOT want to miss this.

Still more fun stuff. In a sad, twisted , sort of way. The City Council meeting is Tuesday at 7. Sounds like there will be a visitor or two. Ought to be interesting at the least.

Let’s talk about the Anonymous button. Please use it responsibly. I started this blog to talk about all the goings on around the bay area and our island. I have let it get hijacked by local politics. This too will pass. Let there be no doubt that we have at least two people sitting on our city council that are unworthy. We deserve a whole  lot better and we will get there eventually. Maybe sooner than later if some efforts pan out. Our best weapon is to stay informed and watch them like a bug in a jar. We don’t have a problem with our police officers. Some of our officers have a problem with their management. That too will get worked out. It’s evolution. We don’t need to create a problem where one doesn’t exist. If you honest to God feel you need to use the anon button then by all means do so. If you just want to use it to lob stink bombs in because you are a chicken shit then go some place else.

NASA recently sent a number of Holsteins into orbit for experimental purposes. They called it the herd shot round  the world.

I feel bad for Tami and crew. Only 5 or 6 citizens show up at each meeting to back them up. I think EVERYONE who supports them should come tomorrow. I will try to save 10 chairs for you. That should be more than enough.

Alan,

Do you still have the pink Tu-Tu you wore for halloween back in the eighties. Don't deny it I think Raynel still has pictures. If you do I will give you $25.00 to ware it tomorrow to the meeting. Anyone else want to throw in some incentive?

I will give you $50 and a ride around the island or to Jackie's Brickhouse in our pink 1959 cadillac.

I'm flattered you think it would still fit! Sadly XL Tu tu's a hard to come by. But I'm keep an eye out!

i dont usually agree with you ab...but i must say i definately agree with your article today. The last paragraph covers alot. In all different areas. i was actually reading it and nodding my head. (not a jab at ya)

Just when I was getting homesick you had to mention ab in a pink tutu. Visions of this had my head spinning. Who is the Band and Jammin on Saturday. We will not be back till Wednesday but love to follow who plays. For all you who are new to Clear Lake Shores despite what you may read here this is the best place you will ever live and here you will probably meet the best friends you will ever love. You may have noticed we don't always agree with each other but you have to admit we are a passionate bunch. Come to sunset as well as the civic club and don't hesitate to introduce yourself (we are sometimes to lazy to waltz to the end of the cart line) Oh and you might want to buy a golf cart - you will never regret that purchase.

Been here for 8 years...The police station in ANY TOWN in America should NOT be run like..a mom and pop... WHAT IS THAT ABOUT???? I think we appreciate your memories of doing so but.....this is a government agency - NOT A COMMERICAL PRIVATE business here. THE GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ADHEREING TO LAWS - not Tina Shelleys laws. Things are changing and Tami put it out there. Maybe not in the most appropriate way - but she did. Thank GOD someone did.

Can you elaborate on problems you have had in the past eight years with our PD or are you just pissing and moaning to hear yourself typr

Don't talk about my Tina.

After the Sheriff's dept. was here 3 days investigating the bogus watch charge rumor started by Arlene, John Pruitt, running for Galv. Co. Sheriff, and 28 year veteran of the Galv. Co. Sheriff's Dept. said the following about Tina (before Pauls' resignation):

"Rookies must always start somewhere but it
takes a long time for them to understand that we should focus on
helping the good folks, like Tina, bring the dog home, closing a door
and mentoring the kids. There is more to law enforcement than writing
tickets and locking people up. The bad ones need to go to jail. When I
stopped someone I always compared the reason with my own life
experiences.....so for tickets I don't write alot. I look forward to
visiting all of you again and you will see me from time to time if the
Chief needs help with crime scenes...he is a great guy and it is sad
you all lost Tina..."

So, you newbies that dont understand what we have had for 20 years, I hope you will be happy now with what we will get. Kenny is a great guy, and has been here a long time also and I am sure will do a great job for us, but I miss my deceased Mother and Father and I miss "Mom and Pop" at City Hall. Sorry, but I am still in the grieving period.

See you all tomorrow night and wish for the best for our City. God bless American and our little town and have pity on the haters.

Roselyn - I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else. I have been here 8 years, but know people who have been here for over 30 years. I truly am in shock after reading the allegations that were set forth. And heck - maybe they are just allegations - I truly, truly hope so. I happen to like Paul very much. I just don't think things like that should happen in a police department. It is not fair. But I guess that still remains to be seen. Didn't mean to cause a ruckus and I apologise if I was offensive in any way. This is a great place to live and raise my son.

To the anon @ 8:27 who said,"THE GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ADHEREING TO LAWS." Tami did not do so. She violate an ordinance. That has been made clear by the way she conducted her illegal investigation. She cannot find it in her to follow prodedures. I will be addressing that tonight as a unscheduled visitor.

There will be many more scheduled visitors the following week addressing her specifically to get the answers they need. Residents need answers to what she has done that has hurt our community. I am guessing she will not have answers. She'll end up blaming others or some such nonsence.

Tami, save yourself from much aggrevation and resign you council seat you have proven you do not respect nor deserve.

Never wrote on here before and will not sign my name this time. Just hope no one wears "colors" to meeting tonight. I heard/read that there are pinks and blacks and such. Lets not make a joke of our little city. Talk about Mom and Pop and not taking things seriously. The news papers will have a field day making fun of us.

Anonymous said...

To the anon at 8:09 - I could not disagree with you more. The amount of pink in the room will be a very visual sign to Tami and the media she has little support.

Adelia said...

There are a lot of areas where siblings, married people, and people who are related work together (Just look at our space program) without any problem. I have heard the allegations of "Mom and Pop" problems in our police station including some that do tend to look as if there MIGHT have been favoritism. These have been alleged by Tami but have not been proven. Whenever I dealt with Paul or Tina I always dealt with them as individuals - never as a team. Sooo I will continue to see them as individuals whom to my knowledge served our community well until I see proof otherwise. I will also support our new Chief as I have supported Paul. I am sure he has the best interests of our community in mind with all he does.

Anonymous said...

8:22 post. Surely you are joking. You are going to wear pink to show Tami you are against her. Now that will surely represent you well and "show her"! them? I am all for fairness and truth and against the rumour mill - but, seriously people - pink outfits? can we think 4th graders ? Please go and show support but no PINK! makes our citizens look childish and stupid!

Roselyn said...

Then please tell the press to (1) stay away, or (2) talk to me. I am the one who created the pink party. It was in response to the pink shirt Tami had on the night she dropped the atomic bomb at council and a hecklers comment about her pink shirt. I am officially changing the non color black of the other team to green. The North Shore Annex is now the green party, because they are green with envy that the Shelley's have this kind of support from the community. so if you were planning on wearing black tonight, please wear green instead.....Speaking of parties. If you had a party at your house and you asked someone to leave twice and they didn't, what would you do?

Suzanne said...

You bet I will have some pink on tonight. It shows soladarity.

If you do not think colors are used in politics you may need to recall the red / blue states in the last presidential elections.

Lighten up 809. We are Mom and Pop here and that is what makes CLS the best place to live hands down. Mom and Pop towns are the best towns in America. I tell my friends my town is like Andy of Mayberry and tell them that with pride. I am the one that came up with the Pink and Black chart thing as a joke and folks ran with it. I don't see how you think we aren't taking this seriously though. Have you been to any of the CC meetings, the party at Ft. Masey, any of the many smaller meetings to plan and try to figure out how to get us back on track or to LB park in the evenings. Trust me we couldn't be more serious and many are investing much of their time to fixing this problem. With the exception of 10 or so citizens that are always bitter and angry about one thing or another and spend their lives attacking their neighbors, the rest of us are fun loving happy folks who can lighten up, joke around and laugh to keep from screaming over the type of BS Tami and company are putting us through right now. I hope everyone wears pink tonight to help show these knuckleheads what the majority of us want for this Island. If outsiders and the news media want to make fun of us,have at it, the jokes on them they don't get to live here and if they think it is bad to have a little fun to ease the tension of this mess then I for one wouldn't want them to live here if they don't get it. If Alan would quit making excuses and put on that old Tu-Tu from the Brigadoon days (inside refrence) then we could really get some media attention. 809 I encourage you to have some fun with the rest of us mom and pops while we seriously take care of business CLS style at the same time. The only thing making us look bad as a town right now are three councilman that seemingly can't or won't do things correctly and appear to be doing the bidding of two citizens who it appears recruited them for this one purpose. From what I understand it is the only thing they have done on council since being elected. Well 809 we are in the process of fixing the problem and having some fun on the journey. If our weird CLS ways bother you you may want to try any other town between Galveston and Houston or most anywhere for that matter. They don't do weird fun things and the media doesn't make fun of them. I however am going to stay here where the media might make fun of us. I LOVE CLEAR LAKE SHORES. I have been here almost 25 years and am going to try for another 25. Ros, can you loan 809 something Pink for tonight? He/She needs to chill out and have some fun. I am sure 809 has good pink intentions but just needs a good dose of Jammin on the Bayou. I think I'll sign my name

Suzanne said...

Craig,

I must commend you on your post. Well said. For the manly men of CLS that do not currently own anything pink please do not wash a white tee shirt with something red. I will be providing PINK armbands for the gents (and ladies) until my roll of ribbon runs out. We have to have fun with something so tragic to release our stress.

Hey Roz,

You can't just radomly change my chart colors. As the creator of the chart idea and as the one who originally assigned the team colors you need my permission. We need to follow procedure. So, permission granted to change from black to green. We have a motion to change the Black team to Green. Do we have a second to the motion?

To the post at 8:09, you might want to look at the June 7th page on this blog for photos of the "Drag Race" our men on the island participate in each year. Tonight is nothing compared to that event. So yes, real men DO wear pink.
