IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Aaahhhh Sunday

Miss me? Just got back from a short break to the coastal bend of Texas. What a great little town Port Aransas is. Nice beaches and not too crowded. Played in the surf and Wyatt finally got the hang of body surfing with and without a belly board. Lots of rays in the water so we had to watch our step. Saw dozens of turtles too. Made a road trip out of the ride home. Rockport, Fulton, Matagorda, Sargent. It’s still nice to be back on our own Island though. I heard we finally got some rain! WooHoo! My rain barrels are full again.
The downside to being off the grid was I didn’t get to see the final launch of the Shuttle program. I envy all of you that did. Sounds like Atlantis is off and doing well. I’ll look forward to the landing.
Sounds like there’s a going away party for Tina Shelley. Here’s what I know..

Allan, Hello..wanted to let everyone know that a party is planned for Miss Tina Shelley and Paul, on Saturday, July 16, 7pm. Location is Fort Massey on N. Shore Drive.
Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish, along with a letter of memories of Tina, that will be put in her personnel file. We want to show our love and appreciation for this wonderful peace officer who served us so well. We would like to have  the letters read at the party. Letters should be addressed to the city of Clear Lake Shores and we will deliver them to City Council. Also, at the Ladies Luncheon on the 20th of July, at Bacchus Restaurant ,11:30am Wednesday, Tina will be present for us to celebrate her time as an officer at Clear Lake Shores.   Will you post this on the Blog as well, as your email list?

When’s the last time you went to an EDC meeting? Tuesday might be a good time to go and get reacquainted with the crew that is spending your tax dollars. They have a lot of great ideas and are always looking for more. Here’s the latest…
“On our agenda is to consider leasing the Lee property on the corner of FM 2094 & Clear Lake Rd. The lease of the property by EDC has very little to do with Farmers Market, that's a secondary benefit. It's to protect businesses such as Opus and the teaching school on FM 2094 from problems related to the construction project. The FM will benefit of course. FM is being impacted now.
The owners of Opus are having problems already with cars leaving and going wrong way on Clear Lake Rd. Several have gotten tickets. Can you imagine what it will be like when CLR is elevated approx 18" beside their business & then Aspen is torn up to be raised & pave? We have $400k in the bank and about $500 daily coming in. I can't imagine why anyone would object to helping reduce impact of construction on local businesses by spending $500 or maybe $600 a month for 5 months” Get out there and show your support for the EDC. See you Tuesday!

I was talking to one of our neighbors the other day, If he wasn’t born on the island he’s been here most of his fifty plus years. He made the statement “ I think there should be a rule that you have to live here for at least ten years before you can run for office. All these new folks move here and all of a sudden they want to change this and change that. After 10 years you get a feel for what this place is all about. Why you moved here. Some stuff needs changing but you need to know what you can get away with”. I almost brought up the old cliché about new blood and fresh ideas but I’m glad I didn’t. I’ve been running that thought over and over though my feeble brain and the more I think about it the more I like it. Then we started talking about all that’s gone on in the last month and how it has affected almost everyone and how the heck we’re going to get it straightened out.

I see the “Silent Majority” is hard at it with their propaganda. 40 signs? Really Bernie? An ex college professor that is bad in math. Who woulda thunk it? Maybe that’s all he can see from his front. Yard. The first 100 were spoken for before they were printed. Oh, and so were the next 100 and that’s not counting all the hand made signs like mine.  OK folks, looks like it’s time to get your signs back out in time for the next Council meeting. Remember what I said a few weeks ago. This ain’t over!

Here’s the latest from concerned citizens that are being civil…..

Interesting that Bernie says "Let's be civil." Maybe he and his wife should practice what they preach.

I drove home down Clear Lakes Shores Blvd made a left on Juniper and a right on Pine and counted 20+ signs...looks like some fuzzy math.
