IslandDrumz

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! Clear Lake Shores is probably one of the best kept secrets in the entire Bay Area. Yes we are an island. We are surrounded by Clear Lake, Jarbo Bayou and the Lazy Bend canals. Plug this in to Google Maps and you'll see what I mean 29.32' by 95.01' We are about half way between Galveston Island and the city of Houston and located in north Galveston county. I will try to keep us up on all the goings on that we can walk, boat, bike or drive our golf carts to. Very few things pi$$ me off but one of them is wasting my precious time. I'll try not to waste yours. Enjoy. ab

Happy Birthday Bud!

The FOD Chili cook-off is this weekend over at Johnson Space Center. You enter off Space Center Dr at the Gilruth Center entrance. Tickets are $10 at the gate and it’s live music, all you can eat and drink all day long. I’ve called this the best kept secret on the bay for 20 years. Tons of stuff for kids big and little. If  you’ve never been, treat yourself. Take your Rolaids, chair and lots of energy.
Bird Update from Eric the Artist
No update on the wayward woodpecker.....

A woman visited a plastic surgeon who told her about a
new procedure called 'The Knob,' where a small
knob is placed at the top of the woman's head and
could be turned to tighten up her skin and produce the
effect of a brand new face-lift. Of course, the woman
wanted 'The Knob.'
Over the course of the years, the woman tightened the knob,
and the effects were wonderful, the woman remained young
looking and vibrant.
After fifteen years, the woman returned to the surgeon with
two problems.
'All these years, everything has been working just
fine. I've had to turn the knob many times and
I've always loved the results. But now I've
developed two annoying problems: First, I have these
terrible bags under my eyes and the knob won't get rid
of them.'
The doctor looked at her closely and said, 'Those
aren't bags, those are your breasts.'
She said, 'Well, I guess there's no point in
asking about the goatee.'

It's Administrative Professionals Day! Who knew?

and a happy birthday to U. S. Grant.

Shuttle Endeavour lifts off for her final flight on Friday. I know it’s spelled funny. Just so you know, it was spelled in the English fashion as a tribute to the famous English explorer James Cook. His research ship was named Endeavour. I know they spell some things weird but they did invent the language so who am I to argue. Don’t get me started on aluminum. Back to our Endeavour (OV105) When she gets decommissioned she will head to, and I quote “a city known well known for its long and storied involvement with the shuttle program…” no, not Houston you dumbass, L.A…….WTF? oh well……

Mother’s  Mothers Day on the 8th. What are you doing that’s special? I’m
looking for ideas…..not for my mother for my son’s
  mother.
A man was telling his neighbor “I just bought a new hearing aid.
It cost me four thousand dollars, but it’s state of the art. It’s
perfect.”  “Really” asked the neighbor, “What kind is it?”
  “Twelve thirty.”
This from new neighbors on Forest between Pine and Clear Lake rd, Craig and Melinda Metz.
My sis found this little kitten sweetie. Appears to be about 3.5 - 4 weeks old . Both my sis and I would take her in a heartbeat, but we both have cat aggressive cats. We have a place for this
precious peanut for another 2-3 weeks, but she'll need a good home then. We'll pay for Vet
assessment, Feline Leukemia test and complete first set of vaccinations, as well as the
spaying (when she's old enough).  Will you be so kind to broadcast this to our island
friends?  Thanks, (PS I have her phone number if you’re interested)

If you voted for Obama to prove you’re not a racist, will you vote
for someone else in 2012 to prove you’re not an idiot?

Makin’ Bacon

Jim bought a bunch of pork bellies the other day. Kinda of a group effort. He made his top secret curing rub and I joined in around 7. The bellies get cut in half so they will fit in to the 2 gallon zip locks. The curing mixture is then applied lovingly to one side. The slabs get double bagged and stored in the fridge for 7 days being flipped over every day. We’ll slow smoke ‘em next week. I’ll put more in the Islander.
Bird update day 2. Eric the artist is hard at it and it shows but just when you get all the tennis balls in the air someone throws in a cat. Or in this case a woodpecker. A real woodpecker. Seems it is appreciating the fact that Eric has removed all that pesky bark from the tree so hunting for bugs just got a lot easier. Ya gotta love Mother Nature.
More on my pet peeve…….Hang up and drive, you’re not near as good as you think you are……

Happy Birthday to.....

The Hubble Space Telescope It was deployed by the Shuttle Discovery in 1990. Discovery (OV-103) you may recall, has recently been assigned her permanent birth at the Air & Space Center out by Dulles Airport in Virginia. Not Houston.
Everyone have a great Easter? Really, What’s not great about Easter? Great time with great friends, awesome food, perfect weather. Sign me up for 6 more months of this.
Have you seen Eric’s (Your Artist) Klusendorf’s latest venture? I hope I didn’t butcher your name too bad Eric. I’ll keep a running commentary here with photos when I can get them but I won’t tell you where. Get off yer butt and go find it.……..
but here's a clue
Early voting starts next week. Here’s a question for your future council members. What do you think about the Farmer’s Market? Pro? Con? I don’t remember that coming up at candidates night. Here’s another question for Council, Are they getting any sales tax revenue from the used car lot? It’s a business that is selling a product for a fee. Space is a product. It will never replace the Beer Garden but apparently nothing will. I guess we’re SOL on Okies old site….
Island Wide Garage Sale is May 14th. If you haven’t signed up yet you need to get by the Hoerners and get your address registered.
I guess next is a crawfish boil. I’ll start shopping for prices but they need to come down from $2.49 a lb.

Happy Birthday Texas!

It used to be a day out of school. Remember San Jacinto Day you old farts? I guess it got traded in for something important like Spring Break……

Hey everybody it’s almost time for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Party.  We will have the party at the club house as usual on Saturday, April 23rd starting at 10 AM.  There will be games, crafts, music and of course the Easter Bunny will make an appearance to visit with all the kids and you will have a chance to get your kids picture with the Bunny himself.
Every year many generous Islanders step up and help me out.  I will need you all again this year..  We will need donations of baked goods for the cakewalk, help decorating the club house, volunteers to run the food and game stations, hiding the eggs and help cleaning up after the party.  If any of you have ideas for a booth with games, face painting, an outdoor activity or whatever, I am open to new ideas.  Just give me a call and we will make room for you at the party.  Hopefully lots of kids will show up for the party so I will need lots of help.
If you or your kids would like to volunteer we will begin setting up at 9:00, if you are donating baked goods please also bring them at 9:00. Please give me a call as soon as you can and let me know how you would like to help.  I really enjoy hosting this party and I look forward to seeing all of the kids again this year.

It’s a dog day. A couple of pooches are looking for a home.
This from Trish Murphy….Not an Islander, no shots, just the forward is all I got. Thought he was cute & could probably find a home easily J Looks like he was rescued from a home that got him as a gift & they are not dog people, was being kept outside. About 5 months old.

From Jenn Moon… If you are interested or know someone that is looking to have a new companion in their life, let me know and I will get you in contact

And a special Happy Birthday to my bud LarryWayne!
